There were no combat soldiers because there was no combat.

Germany was fine. Italy , no so great. Disorganized, suffocating bureaucracy, the OIC was a sociopath.Thanks. Truly. War zone or not, I strongly believe that it's good for Americans to visit other countries and see how the rest of the world lives....
There was a lot of insecurity over there.People who are secure with themselves act one way, and those who are insecure act another.
IMO, those who have seen and understand their own demise are often more secure. Sure, there's always the factor of too much or not enough. With people, normal is looking at the bell curve of average...which can change over time as people adapt.
