My father was a member of NRA, a gun collector, and friends with other recreational gun collectors. 50 years ago, the firearms I saw in civilian hands were primarily revolvers, shotguns, bolt action rifles, and a few semi automatic rifles and pistols, none of which were decked out with high capacity ammunition mags.

I'm a member of the NRA. A certified firearms instructor for over 20 yrs. Shot competitively for 10 yrs. A gun collector as ell.
Most of those I shot competitively with in the 80's used a M1A with a 20 rd. magazine. You know, those scary "assault weapons."
The use of the larger magazines meant no reloading during the rapid fire strings or the offhand position. So there is reason to have one.

Absolutely! In a soft target situation like a elementary school where it is a gun free zone what would stop a shooter with a couple of revolvers and speed loaders from shooting just as many kids as were killed in Uvalde? The answer is nothing would stop them. Clearly the target needs to be hardened. The Ohio school in the OP will pick a few teachers and administrators and train them for 50 hours a year. The school will select from personnel that volunteers. Most police departments train on guns about the same amount of time once then just re-qualify by shooting a few rounds once a year.

Until we can eliminate crazy people there will always be people that want to inflict pain on others because of their own pain. We aren't ever going to cure those kinds of people and as our nation divides under social issues there are going to be more of them. It gets down to the true saying "when seconds count the police are just minutes away." On campus selective armed and trained personnel is the logical choice. There are school districts in Texas that have been doing this for years for years with success.

I know a school principle that carries at her school. Her husband is a fireman with my son. My son and I train on shooting about once a month with them. She is a very good shot and I believe she would protect her students at all costs. I bet parents at Uvalde wish they had trained school personnel like her on campus. Our schools need to be hardened. Classroom should have automatic locking bullet proof doors on all classrooms and a corner storm shelter/bullet proof shelter in every classroom. In Texas and Oklahoma we have tornadoes that are at times a mile wide they are a huge potential danger so in classroom shelters would be a smart idea. They had a huge tornado that killed dozens of elementary kids and few years ago in Oklahoma.

Leftest PRETEND that every elementary school teacher would be packing heat. That is just a strawman argument. School would pick from people that are interested and then train . Often the training is similar to what a police officer receives in their academy training and MORE than they receive yearly. My son is on the SWAT team for North Tarrant County. He also teaches active shooter classes. That is how the armed principle that we know started to train with us.

The biggest question is why do these idiots today need to kill so many innocent people? We never thought of doing shit like that when we were their age. We left our guns in our cars at school. WTF?
