A demographic shift that has been expected for years was confirmed Thursday by the Census Bureau: Latinos now outnumber non-Hispanic whites in Texas.

The new data reveals that Latinos make up around 40.2% of the state’s population, a sliver more than non-Hispanic whites, who make up 39.8%. The results are hardly surprising, as the Latino population in Texas and the country at large has been steadily increasing over the past few decades. In 2020, the census found that just over a quarter of all children in the U.S. are Latino, and the number of Latino children grew by over a million in just a decade.

Another reason why the Republicans were fucking morons to blow off the results of their own Growth & Opportunity Project after the 2012 election.

What is one of the largest groups of conservative, family-oriented and religious Americans in America? Hispanics....but the Republicans blew them off because of both immigration issues and deep-seated racism. Then they wonder why so many fucking white supremacists have taken over their party. LOL

Now, despite Texas (and Florida) efforts to redistrict to maintain white control, they will only see it blow up in their faces in the long run.

Doesn’t matter as only 16% of Latinos vote compared to about 64% of whites meaning that Latinos would need around triple the population of whites to wield a significant portion of political power
