That's not completely true. They do dance on the precipice of authoritarianism and balance on the slippery slope towards totalitrianism but there is some distinctions between Right Wing Republicans and Fascist like the Nazi's.
First, though extremely authoritarian, right wing conservatives are more autocratic then totalitarain. Fascism/Nazism is totalitarianism. What makes most American uncomfortable with this is that Authoristarianism gives lip service to our liberties while systematically degrading them to further empower the State. Most people also know that the road to totalitrianism leads through authoritarianism. Right wing conservatives would be more at home with a divine right monarch, then a secular Dictator with absolute powers or a liberal republic with limited powers for that matter.
Secondly, fascism and totalitarian States replace religion with "The State" where as right wing Republicans prefer to nationalize a specific religious belief. They would be (and are) appaled at the idea of replacing religion with a belief in the State. In either case, both point of views are extreme ones and essentially deny others their religious liberties including the right not to believe or practice a religion.
Right wing Republicans have not condonded violence as a means of achieving their political ends at least domestically that is.
However, there are some similarities that right wing republican do have with fascist/Nazi's.
The identification and marginalization of a specific group of people as a threat to the State (for Nazi that was the Jews. For right wing Republicans that would be Liberals, Blacks and Immigrants).
Intolerance within the political framework for dissenting views.
A wide spread and comprehensive political propaganda network that glorifies nationalism, exagerates threats to the nation, specifically identifies groups of peoples as a threat to the nation and marginalizes those who dissent as treasonous. The similarities between US right wing media (Fox News, Newsmax, right wing talk radio) and Goebbels propaganda model are not superficial or coincidental.
Like fascist/Nazi's right wing Republicans marginalize intellectuals as being elitist. This is understandable and those who are educated are the most likely to communicate the failings and lies of their political movements and are therefore a grave threat to their political movement.
Bigotry. Right wing Republicans prey upon the ignorance of the poor and uneducated by manipulating their racial and ethnic bigotry. The Nazi's exploited anti-semitism and racial hatred of ethnic Slavs. In the US it's southern conservatives and their bigotry and fear toward Blacks. Can anyone doubt that this is the ultimate factor behind the motivations of people like the Birthers? With more and more assimilation of Blacks into the American mainstream this misquided bigotry from conservatives is being placed more often on Mexicans and Immigrants though a healthy fear of Blacks still exist in most rural and southern white conservatives.

1. Liberals/Conservatives are not Liberal/Conservative.
A person who is 'liberal' / 'conservative' favors more freedom and liberty, and liberals/Conservative oppose these at every turn. They seek to impose their will through the judiciary, forcing people to live with government regulation, and restrict the ability to realize the American dream. This can clearly be seen in almost every liberal/conservative policy initiative, in many cases they actually end up causing the very thing the liberals/conservatives try to claim they will help.
2. Liberals/conservatives are not concerned with the "poor and needy!"
Welfare programs (designed by liberals) are actually power traps. The Corporate state (desigend by conservatives) is actually a power trap. Befefits from the Welfair state are all given without any expectation from the recipient/corporation, and in fact, if the recipient attempts to improve his lot in life, he is immediately disqualified for the programs, so he is encouraged to remain a dependent of the programs, and beholden to keeping liberals in power to increase his standard of living. The trickle down theory is a farce used to continue to enrich the wealthy while prevent hard working poor from having a chance.
3. Liberals/Conservatives are not forward-thinking, they are mired in the past! As much as we hear about their 'progressiveness' and how their adversaries are 'stuck in the past', it is interesting to note the number of times, in the arena of debate, they will invoke slavery, civil rights, and systemic racism, and the puritarian politics of clonial America and our founding fathers to make their points. As if we still lived in 1962 America, or worse, 1862 America, or worse 1776 America!
4. Liberals/Conservatives genuinely dislike America.
It goes beyond "unpatriotic" --that false outrage from them, makes me LOL. Liberals don't think America is anything special or exceptional. They fail to grasp any concept of what makes America the greatest nation ever to be conceived by man, they actually reject that very thing. They attribute America's greatness with greed, capitalism, and corrupt corporate power. This is why they embrace European socialism, and European everything! This is why they hold up France and Switzerland as 'models' we should pattern. They don't like who we are or what we are, they want us to be European! Conservatives belive that if its what they grew up with its the way things should be, they reject new ideas which is what America was founded on. They hate anything that is not the way there grandfathers did things and reject the idea that America is an ever changing meltng pot of cultures and ideas.
5. Liberals/Conservatives are bigoted sexist racist homophobes.
Their whole basis for any social argument, revolves around dividing us into generalized groups, with stereotypical values, and universal needs, wants and desires. Liberals will gladly take up the banner for minority groups, especially if they think they can benefit from it politically. Conservatives will play on fear of minortiy groups. These attributess actually serves as a shield for their innermost personal beliefs. When your mind thinks in terms of generalized groups with universal thought, you expose your bigotry for anyone to see.
6. Liberals/Conservatives Love Confrontation!
Contrary to their anti-war image, liberals/conservatives actually enjoy a good war! It gives liberals a chance to dig out the old tie-die shirt, and fire up a doobie for peace! Liberals are Anti-[American side of the]War! It doesn't matter who the enemy is, they already know which side they are going to take! And far be it from anyone to question them... this just gives them the spotlight to display their anti-establishment views more, and they love it. Conservatives have never met a war they did not like, they will support a killing rampages no matter what the justification is, anything to justify the fear they feel in there harts, anything to limit freedom and empower the state. They thrive on the war controversy, but any old controversy will do... race relations... labor unions... education... abortion... gay rights... anything they can turn into a confrontation, they will... because it gets them in the spotlight to spew their anti/pro-establishment rhetoric.

If a life has benefit for their political ideology, it is of value to them to effect the political means. Otherwise, it is of no value to a liberal/conservative. This enables liberals to oppose the death penalty, but favor abortion and conservatives to support war and the death penalty, yet fight abortion even in the case of danger to the pregnant womans life. It enables liberals to support illegal immigration, but oppose the Elian Gonzales' of the world. It allows Conservatives to fight the same immigration policy that allowed there very families to come to America. We must all genuflect toward Cyndi Shehan and listen to what she has to say, but Terri Schiavo's mother is an emotional nitwit we shouldn't listen to! We had daily body counts for Iraq under Bush, but since Obama was elected... not a peep about this! Because, Human Life is valued politically! We were not allow to see photos of coffins returning from Iraq under Bush because if Americans saw the truth we would never have support such a meaningless war. We are asked to fight for and pay for the machine fed, liquafied ceribal cortex, life of Terri Schiavo while allowing the poor to live in squalor with a economic system stacked against them.
