Twitter from Daily Kos: Healthcare Reform is Dead!

It's my understanding that the CBO projected cost cuts of up to $1 trillion, and that the plan would cost less than a trillion.

Why isn't anyone questioning Dixie's wild claim that this will cost "trillions & trillions"?

The reason I have not questioned the claim it will cost trillions and trillions is because it is probably true. As toppy has pointed out numerous times.... when we look back at social programs as they were introduced, the government (especially the CBO) tends to vastly underestimate the costs of these programs.

They tend to make things appear rosier than they actually are. Just look at the bogus claims of 'projected budget surpluses' that both parties shouted from the rooftops back in the election of 2000. They flat out used bogus data in order to justify promising all sorts of goodies to their constituents.

Is there some kind of scorecard available where we can see or judge past CBO projections against reality? Especially something this size?

It just seems that whatever the government projects something to cost it ends up costing more (it obviously happens in the private sector as well).

This is a biggie. Remember the hack arguing over how they should be elected because they would spend the trillions that were coming better than the other guy? And the lemmings fell for it.

You're all idiots. Every one of you. I've had it with you morons.

I am dying to ask a question about health care reform, and I guess this is as good a thread as any to do it... so here goes...

We keep hearing from the left, that healthcare is a "right" ....I don't know that I accept the fact that we were endowed by our Creator with the right to never be sick, but just for the sake of argument, I am willing to give the benefit of doubt on this... it's a right! So, when did it become incumbent upon government to facilitate our every right? When is government going to start subsidizing my guns and ammo? I have the right to bear arms, shouldn't the government provide me with arms if I can't afford them? Shouldn't government be charged with ensuring there is a church in every town? We have the right to worship, but shouldn't the government provide the place of worship for us?

the gov't does insure your right to start a church in any town...and when you establish yourself as a legit religion and priest, you get all those nifty tax exemptions.

Health care does not guarantee you never get sick (only an idiot would postulate such nonsense, so I HOPE you're not doing so). Since our gov't is suppose to work for the welfare of the people, it should make sure that it's citizens have decent access to medical treatment to keep healthy...just like it makes the efforts to try and give decent shelter and food.

As for subsidizing your gun and ammo...if you join a local militia or the National Guard, I believe you're covered (although I'm not sure the militia status gets you a State subsidy).

But hey, if you're of the Spartan mindset and don't mind people dying because an insurance company denied them coverage at some point, then no rational logic or basic fact will persuade you to support the current reform effort.

I see. Wait.... you get your news from twitter?

I find breaking news there all the time. I even built a search engine of my own to find stuff more easily. You are obviously ignorant to the value of twitter and other social networks.

Clueless might be a better way to put it

I know.... it pissed me off as well. Projecting that the economy would continue to grow at the pace it did in the late 90's was absurd. Which led them to their wildly incorrect 'surpluses'. Hell certain people still pretend those 'budget surplus projections' were real and that they were 'lost'.

and you are an idiot too.... (wouldn't want you to feel left out)

Democrats ignoring the obvious cost overruns is retarded in a debate. Your giving those points away to the ghestapo.
Just don't talk about cost and you won't lie or lose.

I kept telling people there was no fricking "surplus" and that we stole from our future in order to pretend that there was one, but nobody listened. Well a few people listened, but the vast majority just vote however they "feel"...

I do not know about a score card on social programs. I know medicare was way off. I would assume the pill bill and medicaid are as well.

The above article shows how they vastly underestimated the long term costs when the plan came out.

Yeah, because if you never talk about the price tag the opposition won't be able to say anything about it... wait....

What is your obsession with Nazi's? I know you like to pretend your opponents are all Nazis.... but I hope you also are aware it is rather insulting to those who witnessed first hand what the real Nazis were like.

This toadstool is passing minus a few libtard gems. What's going to happen if Obama doens't trip over some alt energy or mobile internet boom saving the economy is another republican lead stripping of this lincoln log floater waiting to be flushed.
Just like welfare reform, we'll have free HC reform when the cold rag of reality slaps the feminized dems in the face.
