What he is saying is flat out incorrect.
Race nor being female, does not allow someone to get in who is not qualified. It allows them to pick from a pool of many qualified people not just based on certain other factors and to also consider race.
Meaning if a white male and a black women each with 90% GPA apply, and he was a top athlete, and captain of the chess team, and she was head of the debate club, and valedictorian of her class and is also black, then being black can be a singular point of consideration just like all the others are.
What top elite schools do not solely want to be is the GPA olympics. They do not want the entire grad class to be the battle of the 99.99% GPA folk, who do nothing but obsessively focus on grades.
A person who gets 90% and was Captain of the football team and head of the debate club can be perceived as more desirable than all 99.99%ers. Most work places would take the more rounded people. So if elite schools see themselves as more than GPA factories, the guy who got 90% because he also focused on other things is more likely to be a future company CEO, which is what elite schools want.
A black person coming from a broken home in a crime infested neighbourhood, who gets 90% has proven more than a person like Brett Kavanaugh, who had tutors and prep school, and every advantage and gets the same or similar grade. So even if Brett's grade was slightly higher it would not be wrong to take that black applicant. They have proven more in other areas.
Ahh, but the question remains as to WHO HAD THE GRADES TO GET INTO THOSE IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
