America Is Losing Religious Faith

He can. Evolution is not incompatible with faith. This is part of the problem, humans think because they can better understand how the world works through science that leads them to conclude there is no God. It's faulty logic
The driving mechanism of evolution, at least in large part, is random genetic mutation and gene drift. The question that has befuddled me is that random chance doesn't seem compatible with intent.

Religion could flourish again if it got away from its medieval roots.

There likely is a God, and a purpose to why we are here. But real evidence can be found in quantum physics, near-death experiences, channeling and other means. Religion doesn't have to be mystical or worshipful. It can be scientific, and evidential.

Have a 4th grader explain to you that a theory is unproven speculation.

That tells us everything we need to know about your science background. Perhaps you can learn from a 4th grader, but a scientific theory requires rigor.
It has to be repeatedly tested over time
It has to make predictions which must follow the theory
It has to be widely accepted by the scientific community
It cannot fail. If it does, the theory is rewritten or dismissed.
Anyone familiar with science would understand that.

Dunning-Kruger. Dumb people do not realize how ignorant they are.
