US school shootings double in a year to reach historic high

Schools in the United States are suffering an alarming rise in shootings, according to new federal data that shows the number of incidents reaching a historic peak for the second year running.

Data compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) records that in 2021-22 public and private schools, spanning both elementary and secondary levels, incurred a total of 327 shootings – a record high. The incidents involved a gun being brandished and fired or a bullet hitting school property.

If what we have today is what the Framers envisioned then we really need to reconsider the general "respect" we pay the Framers. I personally believe the Framers knew an agrarian world where having a gun was a necessary tool for food and self-protection and for the occasion when a militia was needed. I doubt very highly that they would have structured it as they did if they had any view of a modern pluralistic society with easy access to extremely high powered firearms that resembled almost nothing that they would have been able to imagine.

Because I love kids and want to keep them safe. Why do you think the opposite?
BTW, the same goes for the drag queen story hours and other groomers worming their way into the school system.

The very minute a drag queen shoots up a school I'll worry about drag queens. But I remember growing up in a country where schools didn't have to be armed prisons.

back in those days, rural areas had marksmanship classes, allowed guns in the trucks for hunting after school............so what do you think changed from then to now that school shootings have increased?

Did I say drag queens shot anybody but they do go after children as was shown in CA just yesterday. Getting back to shootings in schools, Yes I want them literally bomb proof as they are in Israel. I grew up the same way you did but if you have a pulse you are aware, we ain't in Kansas anymore.

More and more guns. We have the highest per capita rate of gun ownership of any developed nation on earth by a wide margin. That means there are more guns laying around that can be diverted to (stolen or sold) people who wish to do harm. This is emboldened by the last couple of decades of NRA lobbying to halt any meaningful gun legislation to protect people and a rise of the type of gun owner who fetishizes these things as opposed to using them as a tool.
