The Car of the Year.............Is Electric. MAGA soils diapers.

Obviously some do. That is why this thread got started.

Where? I have seen no soiled diapers relevantly related to this rather innocuous announcement that a hybrid car (not electric) got car of the year from a magazine that now reaches almost 400,000 readers...

A coalition of more than 3,000 auto dealers nationwide is sending an open letter to President Biden, calling on him to "tap the brakes" on his administration's aggressive electric vehicle (EV) push.1 day ago

When I was younger I rode motorcycles for almost 25 years.

I used to only ride one make of bike, namely Laverdas. They were big hand - assembled Italian jobs.

The Laverda factory's best-selling models were its 1000cc triple - cylinder motorcycles. One of these was called the Jota which was "tuned" (the standard engine was specially modified with high-compression pistons and higher-profile cams).

When I was living in England I bought a Jota and trust me the experience of riding it was better than sex.

The grunt of the motor was amazing- opening the throttle up fast would just about pull your arms out of their sockets, then there was the sound of the bike, which was this off-beat, baritone howl that got your adrenalin flowing.. Also, you could feel the bike working through the vibrations from the big motor as you were riding it (changing into different gears, easing off/twist on the throttle); then after you'd been riding the Jota hard for a while you would become enveloped in the gasoline-oil smells rising from the engine. So in sum it was pure fun and pure excitement - all of your senses were working overtime: visual, tactile, audition, smell.

Anyway, lots of guy (and some girls too) absolutely love riding motorcycles. A tremendous amount of what makes motorcycles popular (especially the bigger one) is that they are powered by gasoline engines. I can't imagine what riding an ELECTRIC motorcycle would be like. I suspect it would be a very bland and uninspiring experience, like having sex with 3 condoms on as opposed to none (:). An electric motorcycle would be as tedious, lifeless, and poe-faced as a politically correct American Liberal.

Passing legislation that would eventually outlaw gasoline motorcycles would kill the joy and exhilaration that 1000s and 1000s of bikers in America experience every day. I don't think bikers in the US will allow GND wankers to take their gas engines off them without a serious fight.

And do you know what REALLY gives me the shits about all this "Green New Deal" palava? I'll tell you... THERE IS NO GLOBAL CLIMATE CRISIS. THERE IS NO EXISTENTIAL THREAT TO HUMANITY FROM CLIMATE CHANGE. THAT IS WHAT THE REAL, HARD, EMPIRICAL SCIENCE SAYS If you don't believe me, I'll you show were to find the proof on the internet. Just ask.

NEW RESEARCH REVEALS ‘SHOCKING’ INFORMATION ABOUT EVERYDAY LAWN EQUIPMENT: ‘IT’S REALLY COUNTERINTUITIVE’

“Battery technology has come a long way.”

The old adage, “big things come in small packages,” unfortunately holds true for engine pollution.*
Research reported on by Grist found that lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and weed eaters can produce more air pollution than much larger, gas-guzzling vehicles —*even more than entire cities.*
“[This] really inefficient engine technology is, pound for pound, more polluting than the cars and trucks,” clean air advocate Kirsten Schatz, with nonprofit Colorado PIRG, said to Grist. She is also the lead author of a report that referenced data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“Outdoor equipment generates a pretty shocking amount of pollution,” she said.*
What’s happening?*
The data on our yard machines is clear and includes a variety of pollutants. The equipment produced more than 68,000 tons of “smog-forming” air pollution, according to 2020 EPA data. Grist noted that dirty air output is about the same as running 30 million gas cars.*
Further, in 2020, the machines produced 30 million tons of air pollution, contributing to planet overheating. That’s more than Los Angeles makes, per Grist.*
As an everyday example, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services reports that an hour of running a new gasoline lawn mower pumps out the same amount of volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxide air pollution as driving a new car for 45 miles.*

Like I care or my landscapers care... Only those who are scientific illiterates, like you, care. Now, that said, I do have a plug-in electric lawnmower, but only because I know from experience it's far easier for me to maintain and keep in running condition than a gas-powered model. That's why I got it, not to virtue signal or save the planet.

Well, if you like the sound of a sewing machine, an electric bike is for you...

Only an idiot with inadequacy issues would buy a car for the way it 'sounds'. EV owners care about they way it DRIVES and it blows by gas cars all day long.

Just because YOU don't care about something like that doesn't mean somebody else feels the same way. People have varied reasons for buying the vehicle they do. I need a pickup truck for stuff I do, so I buy a pickup truck. An EV won't work for me, so I'm not going to buy an EV. Some people want a loud rumbling V8 powered car. More power to them if that's what they want.

Only a whiny inadequate Leftist like you would snivel about other people's car choices.

If I were a full time professional landscaper with a business, I'd be using nothing but gasoline powered tools. They can run all day, everyday reliably and don't need constant charging like battery tools. I can't expect customers to provide electricity to me either, while gasoline is portable.

Ha! Hypocrisy at its finest. You've been sniveling about people choosing EVs for years. You once even said "People who need their phone to drive (an EV) are a special kind of stupid". Although many gas cars have apps that allow them to control functions via Bluetooth in their car.

Lots of landscapers use battery tools.

“Battery technology has come a long way.”

Li-ion batteries were developed in the mid 1980's. That was the last major battery technology advance...some 40 years ago.
The old adage, “big things come in small packages,” unfortunately holds true for engine pollution.*
Engines are not pollution.
Research reported on by Grist found that lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and weed eaters can produce more air pollution than much larger, gas-guzzling vehicles —*even more than entire cities.*
What is this 'air pollution'?
“[This] really inefficient engine technology is, pound for pound, more polluting than the cars and trucks,” clean air advocate Kirsten Schatz, with nonprofit Colorado PIRG, said to Grist. She is also the lead author of a report that referenced data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

What’s happening?*
Nothing, other than yard work getting done.
The data on our yard machines is clear and includes a variety of pollutants.
What 'data'? What pollutants?
The equipment produced more than 68,000 tons of “smog-forming” air pollution, according to 2020 EPA data.
Made up numbers are not 'data'. What 'pollution'?

contributing to planet overheating.
No gas or vapor has the capability to warm the Earth. You cannot create energy out of nothing. You are ignoring the 1st law of thermodynamics again.
That’s more than Los Angeles makes, per Grist.*
What 'pollution'?

Ah. You finally came up with what you consider 'air pollution'. Now let's discuss it:

Nitrogen oxides are not smog. While gasoline is indeed an organic compound (even though it has no organic source), it is burned in the device. If anything, all you get is soot.

That said, the usual problem with gasoline powered garden tools is the crappy carburetor designs they tend to have. I stick with the simpler ones that don't have automation using springs and shit. Predator engines are a good design for this.

Smog is not nitrogen oxides nor gasoline. L.A. does not have a smog problem. It lies in a desert coastal region and is subject to dust and fog, creating a brown haze and a brownish coastal fog. The further from the coast you go, generally the clearer the air. The effects and location of this weather is easily seen from aircraft, which are often affected by it since LAX is located on the coast and SNA is located quite near the coast.

Now about the garden tools themselves:
Many garden tools already have electric options, but unfortunately there is no standard between them for battery packs. Each device has it's own unique design. This means the expensive batteries and the battery charger are unique to each device brand. Many of these designs are weak as well, and can't handle the industrial type of yard work required by landscape maintenance businesses. Quite a lot of tools have NO electric option at all. My compactor, for example, has no electric option. Obviously there is no battery powered generator. The biggest advantage, of course, and especially for the city resident that has a small yard, is no need to maintain or clean the carburetor after off season storage.

I myself own almost ten acres. No electric option exists to handle that. The tractor is diesel powered, and the lawn mower is gasoline. I also have an electric lawn mower that I use for trim mowing, and a gas trimmer for final edging around signs and trees. (No cord reaches that far, and a battery trimmer is too weenie for the job). Landscape maintenance businesses typically use a stand-up lawnmower (no electric versions available), and gasoline powered trimmers (battery ones are too weak and take too long to recharge). Trying to blow leaves from a shopping mall parking lot with an electric blower won't cut it.

We have no smog. Any soot in the air is washed out by the next rain.

You weren't talking about the 'soiled diapers' phrase until now. But...a bit of history, since you seem to be unaware...

It was Joe Capitalist that first used this phrase, over and over, several iterations of EV worship threads he created ago. Since then, the phrase has been turned against him by people showing why his EV worship has problems.
In particular, the EV worship that Joe Capitalist continues to push is based on heavy subsidies and mandates to sell EVs. He is completely oblivious to the EVs stacking up in manufactures lots because they aren't selling.

Instead, he just changes his "EV's are GREAT and everyone should have one and gasoline cars are going away", because he thinks the heavy subsidies (communism) and mandates (fascism) are justified.

So if you want to complain about the "soiled diapers", phrase, look to Joe. He created it. Others just make fun of it.

Now, concerning the car discussed in Motor Trend:
Yes, it's a hybrid car. Joe called it an electric car (it's not) and started pushing his battery EV nonsense again. So again, you can blame Joe for this one too.
