I as did the rest of the world, tuned in for Obama's speech. Since American politics effect the global economy.
The beginning was boring and reminded me of Bush, as did the war talk. Though it got better as it progressed.
Anyways, what do I have to say about Obama's leadership so far? I have heard alot of good done by this administration. What I dont like is the fact that he has continued Bush's policy of trying to spend America out of debt. Sure the main problem is that bush left a big mess for Obama to clean up. And throwing more money is the quickest fix of a sinking ship. Though the hole is getting bigger and more and more money is needed to plug the hole, so that is not working.
I like the idea of creating "clean energy" jobs. I like the idea of the new train. Since transportation is very important to an increasing population. They should build one on each side. North to south.
I also have stressed many times that the trade deficit has to be addresses. Obama has set a goal to double exports. This is very good news.
They also want to take the 30 Billion dollars and give it back to the banks to lend out to small businesses.
I'm not sure though, will that not be better spend as a subsidy(to existing companies) to increase exports?
I also like the idea of giving money or tax cuts(Or whatever he was saying) to give companies incentives to raise wages(preferably small companies).
New business loans are a gamble......
Now I know that Obama's administration has been doing alot for education. And it is true. Education helps fight poverty. Though not all. Higher education of fields in demand(geographically) are key to help fight poverty.
I have been calling for lower College and University costs for quite some time. The #2 reason for bankruptcies in America is due to education costs. Who pays for these bankruptcies? The tax payers.
He spoke about more affordable mortgages. I say we get more affordable homes. Build them smaller if you have to. Why are homes so big and so expensive? First home buyers are usually childless couples and do not need big homes. It is just a stepping stone before they do have children.
And Universal Health care? As Obama said? Would lower medical costs nation wide. Not only for the individual, and elderly but for every Employer in America. That is why now Employers bypass their duty to give you benefits by hiring you through an agency.
The current system is the number one reason for bankruptcies in America. And also responsible for companies closing down due to high premiums. And who pays those bankruptcies? The American tax payer..
This is why Obama said that health care reform would save a lot of money that would normally be added to the deficit..
Anyways, that is what I got from the speech. What are your thoughts. Did you approve of the speech or not and why.
