State of the Union Speech.

I as did the rest of the world, tuned in for Obama's speech. Since American politics effect the global economy.

The beginning was boring and reminded me of Bush, as did the war talk. Though it got better as it progressed.

Anyways, what do I have to say about Obama's leadership so far? I have heard alot of good done by this administration. What I dont like is the fact that he has continued Bush's policy of trying to spend America out of debt. Sure the main problem is that bush left a big mess for Obama to clean up. And throwing more money is the quickest fix of a sinking ship. Though the hole is getting bigger and more and more money is needed to plug the hole, so that is not working.

I like the idea of creating "clean energy" jobs. I like the idea of the new train. Since transportation is very important to an increasing population. They should build one on each side. North to south.

I also have stressed many times that the trade deficit has to be addresses. Obama has set a goal to double exports. This is very good news.

They also want to take the 30 Billion dollars and give it back to the banks to lend out to small businesses.

I'm not sure though, will that not be better spend as a subsidy(to existing companies) to increase exports?

I also like the idea of giving money or tax cuts(Or whatever he was saying) to give companies incentives to raise wages(preferably small companies).

New business loans are a gamble......

Now I know that Obama's administration has been doing alot for education. And it is true. Education helps fight poverty. Though not all. Higher education of fields in demand(geographically) are key to help fight poverty.

I have been calling for lower College and University costs for quite some time. The #2 reason for bankruptcies in America is due to education costs. Who pays for these bankruptcies? The tax payers.

He spoke about more affordable mortgages. I say we get more affordable homes. Build them smaller if you have to. Why are homes so big and so expensive? First home buyers are usually childless couples and do not need big homes. It is just a stepping stone before they do have children.

And Universal Health care? As Obama said? Would lower medical costs nation wide. Not only for the individual, and elderly but for every Employer in America. That is why now Employers bypass their duty to give you benefits by hiring you through an agency.

The current system is the number one reason for bankruptcies in America. And also responsible for companies closing down due to high premiums. And who pays those bankruptcies? The American tax payer..

This is why Obama said that health care reform would save a lot of money that would normally be added to the deficit..

Anyways, that is what I got from the speech. What are your thoughts. Did you approve of the speech or not and why.

if he actually comes through on some of the stuff he promised, great

my take, he won't, he is nothing but a campaigner and it is disturbing that he goes to great lengths to make himself not a campaigner and a man of the people. too bad he is not.

I fucking hate agreeing with Spurt but he was in full campaign mode last night.
He called for more Offshore areas opened up for drilling. Dems would rather people starve.

I heard nukes, then offshore drilling. But like most other shit that he's proposed, he'll likely do something very different.

He was a combative whiner! Scolding the SC; acting as though he has tried to include republican's in health care and other legislation...as if! Whining that he inherited his problems...again, as if! He has failed to govern in a way that actually creates jobs...his read my lips moment last year was "unemployment won't go over 8% if we pass his trillion dollars worth of spending. His "I won't sign any bill with ear marks" was another read my lips moment!

The 30 billion to community banks is his way of getting the government invested in small banks...His "jobs bill" is just another name for more stimulus!

All he did is prove once and for all that he is a dug in idealogue! He has given the American people, the people who have made known their distatste for his spending, his middle finger.

I agree with what Obama said, it takes balls to include that in the SOTU speech.

If Alito said "not true" he does not understand basic semantics because he was responding to President Obama saying, "I belive..."

He DID inherit the problems. Clinton started the problems(outsourcing on a large scale) and Bush quadrupled the problem(running up the deficit while give big businesses tax breaks).

Exactly. Same thing. He just did it in a way that takes the pressure off the banks.

A lot of what he stated made sense. Though that dig about defense spending? America not only has the most powerful arsenal of weapons? It spends 100's of times more than any country on the military. Is all that money needed on the military at a time like this?

I really liked what he had to say about clean energy projects.

High paying jobs means high taxes and increased consumerism(and more jobs). It also means a cleaner environment. And it means that if America leads in clean energy technology? It will be a MAJOR export. This spells big bucks for America.

I hope not. How many incompetent leaders and false promises does the public have to endure before they say enough is enough!!!! And realize these elections for what they are? A sham.

WHo;s to say those jobs won't be sent overseas, or more desperate workers imported from third world slave nations to do the work "lazy americans" shouldn't be allowed to do because they're predominantly white? How dare americans be predominantly white. After slavery? In this day and age?

Globalization zealotry must be combatted, or even the stimulus spending you love won't mean squat.

"Read my lips, I'm full of shit"

Obama proved that he is a perpetual campaigner and nothing that closely resembles a leader. He gives good words and even that is waning.

The speech was too long, too full of rhetoric, and a weak version of what he said in his first address to the nation.

He took credit for Bush tax cuts and then pulled the "look at what I inherited" schtick when he couldn't take responsibility for his "read my lips" bravado.

He has nothing left to do but barrel forward and hope the dust he stirs up covers his complete lack of ability.

His SOTUA was another arrogant example of his tone deaf "we're gonna do it my way" leadership. As you say it was more campaigning. His phony attempt at claiming "he gets it" was so obviously flat on sincerity.

Did you see the focus group of Philly' voters responses? They nailed it. This morning the MSM is trying to spin this as "Obama takes responsibility" BS!

You never know, though when he doesn't start creating jobs in these fields? He should be held accountable, after spending the people's money. When Politicians make promises and spend the people's money? There should be an agency that makes sure the money was spent on what it was supposed to be spent on. In this case job creation in AMERICA.

I am against stimulus spending. It is highway robbery. The government is bailing out corrupt corporations.

If he "got it" he would never be where he is right now.

Community Organizer gone horribly wrong.

Reality check: Obama gropes for a strategy
President Barack Obama on Wednesday night tacked to the right with appeals for tax cuts for small business and new investments in off-shore oil drilling and nuclear power. He tacked to the left with renewed vows to let gays serve in the military and to get U.S. troops out of Iraq.

He sounded at times like a Bill Clinton-style centrist, at others like a bank-bashing populist. He taunted Republicans, and also presented himself as a lonely tribune of cooperation and bipartisan civility in Washington.

In a favorable light, his State of the Union speech may have revealed the mind of a leader who has never cared much about traditional ideological categories and is determined to create his own results-oriented composite of ideas from across the spectrum.

Less charitably, the address could be interpreted as the work of a president who is desperately improvising by touching every political erogenous zone he and his advisers can think of.

Under either judgment, however, it was inescapable that his 69-minute speech — for all the rush of words and policy ideas — was a document of downsized ambitions for a downsized moment in his presidency.
