That is not the way crime numbers work. In fact, no one checks how many convictions are gotten. It is only reported crimes that are counted.

1. The Police are not even called for most simple crimes like shoplifting, muggings, and purse snatching because they don't even show up due to the lack of staffing.
2. If an offender is brought into jail, in many cities they are immediately released and there is no accounting for a "crime"
3. Some of these offenders are caught and released multiple times per day.

You asshats screech that crime is down until it hits your neighborhood.

Usually, someone would call the police if they were mugged, or a purse snatching. A little less likely with a shoplifter, and especially unlikely if the shoplifter is not noticed.

But, you have understood one of my points, it is only reported crimes that are counted.

That is completely untrue. If the crime is reported, it counts as a crime. The offender does not even need to be caught, or even identified. So unsolved murders count as murders, even though the perpetrator was never identified.

There are no cities where suspects are immediately released. Suspects must first be arraigned, which takes a little time.

Is there anything you know? A crime rate is calculated by dividing the number of reported crimes by the total population. It is usually then multiplied to calculate the number of crimes per so many thousands of population.

Where you fall apart wallie is when and if these miscreants get into position to come before a judje, their major offenses are plea bargianed to minor misdemeanors.
You also neglect to understand the fact, a great many violent carjackings are done by thugs under the age of 15. They are released within a day because they are minors. Over and over they are re arrested for the same crime the same day.

Judges usually do not decide plea bargains. They do approve plea bargains, but even there are mostly rubber stamps. The plea bargains are decided by the prosecutors.
