Almost all American production requires foreign inputs. Almost all American production has some exports that it depends on. Even if the American production has neither, it depends on Americans who will need more money because they need to buy things that will cost more.

And then there is the loss of productivity that tariffs always lead to.

I am against the prison industry. Prisons are unfortunately necessary, but they should be limited, and run by the government. When we start allowing companies to make a profit off them, there is a perverse incentive.

I am not against companies making money off of medical research. That seems like a good for society, and the exact sort of research driven innovation that capitalism is good at. I am against monopolies forming in pharmacology, but that is not the same as reflexively being against the entire pharmacology industry.

I do think that pharmacology should be heavily regulated... But again that is the opposite of what you are saying.

That is he plan. After a decade or two of suffering, we will build all the infrastructure to make everything. You cannot deny that we have a lot of years of suffering ahead of us.

What we saw with places like Brazil and India when they used broad, high tariffs was that sooner or later they did build everything. It took a lot longer than they thought it would, but they got to that point. Unfortunately, the lacked economies of scale, comparative advantage, and most importantly competition. It was almost impossible to buy a color TV well into the 1990's in either country. They were always 30 years behind the times, and double the price.

And they were never able to develop exports.

So honest trump supporters say trump will lead us into a long, deep recession, or more likely a depression, and then we will have a golden age a decade later. People who disagree with trump say there will be no golden age, just a descents into third world status.
