President-elect Donald Trump threatened on Saturday that the U.S. would reassume control of the Panama Canal if it felt that Panama wasn’t honoring the terms of a 1977 treaty regarding the waterway’s legal status.

In two lengthy Truth Social posts Saturday evening, Trump accused Panama of charging U.S. vessels exorbitant rates to pass through the critical waterway. He also claimed that the treaties enabling Panama to take control of the canal in the first place also allow for the U.S. to take it back.

Mexico payed plenty playing ball with Trump and they are going to again.

Paying for the wall was always a metaphor.

Seems like I heard Iraq and Libya saying this stuff too. How did that go for them? Panama is in no position to get greedy and renege on it's agreement when we gave them control.

President-elect Donald Trump is openly discussing provocative aspirations for U.S. territorial expansion as he prepares to return to the White House, warning about taking over the Panama Canal and wresting control of Greenland from Denmark...

...Later Sunday, in a statement announcing his pick for U.S. ambassador to Denmark, Trump signaled his continued interest in taking control of Greenland. “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said. Denmark controls the self-governing island, which sits at a strategically important location in the North Atlantic.

Trump, who made his name in real estate, discussed purchasing Greenland in his first term. After The Wall Street Journal reported on his private deliberations on the matter, officials in Denmark and Greenland dismissed the idea. “We’re open for business, not for sale,” Greenland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at the time.
