Man dies of asthma attack after inhaler cost skyrockets to more than $500

Cole Schmidtknecht expected to pay $66.86 for a three-month supply of his preventative asthma inhalers in January 2024 when he went to his Walgreens pharmacy in Appleton, Wisconsin. The pharmacy allegedly told him his insurance no longer covered the medication, so he would have to pay the full cost.

The bill: $539.19, according to a recently filed lawsuit.

Why didn't the patient call the doctor and ask for an alternative?

Why didn't the patient go to the ED if he was feeling poorly?

yes, a tragic story to be sure, but told in a way to bash the healthcare industry (which definitely deserves criticisms), but much is being left out of the story which is typical for people like you with an axe to grind.

So he would need to get a new prescription for a one month supply, and for generic rather than brand name. Then he would have to buy more every month.

That requires a new prescription which would take time, and paying $165 ($55x3), when he already had health insurance which should have paid for $66. What is the purpose of paying for the health insurance then?
My guess is that vols doesn't have health insurance, so he doesn't want anyone else to have it either.

How horrible. I hope they win. But nothing will bring their son back.
Agreed no amount of money can bring their son back but maybe they can help save someone else's loved one.

Speaking of which, it's easy to see which JPP members are not Christians on this thread based upon their callous disregard for the suffering of others. Note that most of them are big anti-abortion proponents proving their stance is more about subjugating women than it is preserving human life.

If they had just gave their son the 55.00 to buy the inhaler

First, thanks for proving you are not a Christian.

Second, again, son, I don't have enough information to jump to conclusions as you are so quick to do.

Lastly, I strongly suspect your neighbors know how evil you are and pray they will not act on it against you. Good luck.

Christianity has nothing to with it the inhaler cost $55

We don't begin to approach civilized status in the modern world
until every aspect of healthcare is deprivatized
and a fully comprehensive national health service is established.

Right now, we may as well be running around in loincloths.
More that 77 million of us have to elevate themselves quite a bit before reaching loincloth status.

Matthew 25:40-45
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
