Why would you negotiate with someone who continually threatens then backs down, then threatens and backs down. All you need to do is wait till they back down again.
I’m on the side of reality and good neighborly relations.
I don't see how American businesses can make plans and decisions about investments, hiring, contracts in an atmosphere of chaos, uncertainty, and policy flip-flopping.

Maybe FORD will shut down the power gird like he has said he might, maybe that will get the MAGAS to smarten up and see Trumps tariffs can and just might do a LOT of harm to the US consumer.
Then Trumps tariffs on autos and parts from Mexico and Canada could do some real real harm to the US auto industry,Maybe even crash it, Thousands and thousands of US auto workers could be laid off and then there will be thousands and thousands more in supporting industries being laid off causing a deep recession.
It doesn't look good , there has already been some impact on the US economy already and if he does put his tariffs on it will get a lot worse.

The tariffs, so far, are mostly aimed at Red states, Florida oranges, Kentucky bourbon, etc.

You are 100% correct on that.
We have two big auto plants in this area and the workers don't know what is going to happen and some of them are preparing to be laid off ( soon ) and may have to look for other jobs, the uncertainty is really getting to them.
It doesn't look good for people around here that work in the auto industry.
You love Trump's chaos, inconsistencies, and constant flip-flopping.
Other nations are probably only going to tolerate it to a certain degree. They are not obligated to love what you love
