got your papers?

You know I was thinking, the law might be more attractive if it required Arizona Police to ask for ID as such:

Ihre Papieren Bitte.

oder

Ausweisse bitte.

At least then we could have some historical link to this kind of legislation.

Now; you're just being an ass, for the sake of being an ass.

2008 is only going to be a year behind the most recent year we have stats for. I haven't even heard if DOJ has compiled stats for 2009 yet, so it is possible that 2008 is the most recent. Water just answered your challenge, pwned you with it and you didn't like it. He has done what you required, if you think the stats are wrong post your own. Not only that, but the link Water provided provides reference to other studies that you can look up yourself. water shattered your myth, and you don't like it, so you attack the messenger rather than disproving the link he provided.

Then would you care to explain why the Crime Rate in Arizona went down, soon after Arizona passed the bill that made it a crime to higher illegals, which caused the number of illegals entering Arizona to drop also.

Are you kidding? The Center for Immigration Studies? A pro-illegal immigration think-tank devoted to amnesty publishes a report and you take it at face value because you like what they say?

Isn't that a bit like accepting the reports that cigarettes don't cause cancer from cigarette companies because you like cigars?

Thanks
I just didn't feel like getting in that argument and wanted to stay on what was the main discusion; because as usual, it would have moved into the realm of "IS TO - IS NOT".

I totally don't get all the hullabaloo over this... AZ basically passed a law to enforce immigration laws! WTF? Why is this such a controversy? I don't get it! Since when is it some "violation of rights" for a law enforcement officer to ask to see your ID? They do this at random roadblocks all over Alabama, I am sure other places have these random checkpoints as well. Not only your ID, but your proof of insurance as well, and if you don't have them, you get a ticket and pay a fine... it's called... THE LAW!

It's because some people just FEEL that it's wrong somehow.

there's this little thing called the 4th amendment. Police officers are not allowed to detain you unless they have reasonable articulate suspicion that you have committed a crime, are committing a crime, or are about to commit a crime. That doesn't mean that they can't try to initiate a consensual contact with you, but in that event, you have every right to say no and walk away. no id, no name, no nothing.

If you are here illegally, you have committed a crime, no?

We have had checkpoints here for many years.

What the fuck do you mean? The 4th amendment says they can! If they have reason to believe you are breaking the law, they can ask for your ID. Simple as that.

They can not just stop someone, ask them for their ID, and then say the reason is because they THOUGHT you might be an illegal.
They have to have a resonable cause; ie: you resemble a bank robber, your car is one described in a crime, you're running down the street shooting a gun, etc.

Yes, they can ask for your ID, they do it all the time here in Alabama.
