I couldn't find a thread equivalent to the "what song are you listening to" pinned thread for tv shows or films, so I thought I'd make this one and see how it goes. To start off, I've recently finished the second season of both Severance and Silo, both from Apple TV and thought they were both quite good. I don't actually have a subscription to Apple TV at present, times are a bit tough for me right now, but I found a way to see them anyway :-).

Here are the trailers for the first seasons of these 2 series:

On the film side, I just finished watching the new Russian version of The Master and Margarita with my father, I thought it was quite good. Here's the trailer:

I recently thought of another tv series I really liked called Dark in English. It's originally in German and had 3 seasons. It can be seen on Netflix. Here's the trailer to the first season:

It’s a -bit- scary, but not too scary, so I’d say it’s a thriller. I'm not into horror, it's the one category that I have seen very little of. I think what I like most about is that since it has a lot of time travel in it, with many of the characters going back and forth in time, you see many of them when they were kids, young adults and even elderly and it made me think a lot about how the choices we make can have such powerful impacts on our future.

They just don't make the kind of witty dialogue-driven films that I've always like best.
WOKE has just about wiped comedy out of the industry.
Many of my favorite films could never be made today.
The Academy has gone full-fruitloop with their requirement for awards.

For lack of anything else, I watch a lot of Korean dramas on Netflix, always the original audio with sub-titles [I hate dubbing].
Every major character in all of them is Asian, and rarely is there ever a non-Asian even in a shot.
Can you imagine how the Academy would react if a cast was all-white?

I do understand that most Asian nations are homogenous while we are a multi-racial nation.
But there are period pieces where there are non-white characters where they simply would not be often seen
decades ago. Realism, in other words, is eschewed in favor of political correctness.
But that doesn't bother me that much--I just think it's silly.

What bothers me is what the characters are allowed or made to say.

As for action adventure, I've seen enough action-adventure in real life.
The worst part is that I always enjoyed cinema so much.
Now, most of it is unwatchable to me.

I added it to my que. My wife dislikes horror, but I'm a fan of a good horror movie. Not slasher pics but movies like "Alien", "The Exorcist" and "The Thing".

I'd recommend the anime I listed above on Netflix to you, but you'll either love it or say WTF am I watching?! and that'll be the end of that. It is that different and weird and it's anything but woke or politically correct.

th

Gunsmoke.
For those of you who didn't know.

Started watching Gotham, but couldn't finish the series; too repetitive, and I never liked DC comics anyway; always preferred Marvel.

Currently watching " The Crown". It's okay, but probably won't finish it either.

" The Americans" are up next, older series but they're all new if you've never seen them.

I still think 'Breaking Bad', "Justified", and "Fargo" were the best ones of the pay for view series.

" Dark Winds" looks promising, based on Tony Hillerman's novels. Writing should be good. It's going to have at least 4 seasons, apparently, 2 out now.

If my local library doesn't have them I won't see them. Dropped paying for TV a long time ago. Huge ripoff, and the series eventually end up on free TV eventually anyway if they're any good.

I watched “Severance”, a very strange series. I haven’t watched “Silo”. I’ll have to check it out.

Interesting. I personally haven't gotten into many asian shows that are -not- anime (I have a thing for anime). There was one exception, a historical tv series about a chinese general that I believe could have become Emperor. I believe he squandered the opportunity, but I think I understand why. It's an 11 episode series that I saw on Epoch Times. The trailer can be seen here:

It -may- be that you can see it by just making an account, but it's also possible that you need to pay for a monthly subscription to see it. I have one (I got a real discount subscription, like 1 or 2 bucks a month), so I wouldn't know.

I added it to my que. My wife dislikes horror, but I'm a fan of a good horror movie. Not slasher pics but movies like "Alien", "The Exorcist" and "The Thing".

I don't think I'll ever see The Exorcist, though I did see small snippets, I suspect that same would be true for The Thing. As to Alien though, I actually liked the original Alien despite the scary parts. Probably in large part because I like Sigourney Weaver. Still, that in and of itself wasn't enough to get me to see any of the sequels. Oh, I also watched one of the Friday the 13th films, maybe the first. I wouldn't have, if I hadn't been in a place at the time where there was a single TV and the people there had decided that's what we were going to watch that night, but I actually found it interesting, especially a bit where it seemed to suggest that there's something wrong with modern medicine (at least that was my take on it).

Currently watching " The Crown". It's okay, but probably won't finish it either.

I watched it all the way to the last season, Season 6. I'm pretty sure I stopped after Episode 3 of that season, because Diana's death always got me thinking. So after Episode 3, I decided to watch the documentary on Diane's death that was fianced by Mohamed Al-Fayed, the father of Dodi, who Diana had been having a romantic relationship with. It's called Unlawful Killing. Due to liability issues, I'm not sure if the film was ever released in any theater anywhere, but I managed to find it online. Anyway, it persuaded me that the official story on what happened to Diana is false. Wikipedia has a page on the documentary which can be seen here:

Because The Crown is pretty official in many respects, it's turned me off from watching the final episodes.
