Letterman came on AFTER Carson's show at 12:30 AM on NBC,
replacing Tom Snyder who'd been on after Carson in that time slot before.
CBS put Letterman against Leno
and NBC replaced Letterman with Conan O'Brien.

I watched lots of late night back in those days.

I haven't watched late night tv since Leno so I know little about Cobert except (I think) he would be on The Daily Show when Jon Stewart was there every show. I didn't consider him particularly funny back then. He came across as an annoying nerd. (Maybe that's his schtick? :dunno:)
So... in what way did he make fun of Brandon?
