TSMC started this project towards the end of Trump's first term. Biden tried to take credit for it but that's bullshit. TSMC has sunk about $170 billion into this plant to date. When done it will have 6 "fabs" (production lines). You can get some idea of just how huge this plant is by the size of the cars on Loop 303 (a six-lane interstate style highway) and adjacent access road in the foreground.

So, the US capacity to make chips domestically is expanding significantly to the detriment of countries like China.

It also is hurting the US auto workers not only with more layoffs but they will be losing several thousands of dollars in their yearly profit sharing checks and they are not happy about it. ( up to 5 or 6 thousand dollars or MORE )
These are things that can have a large effect on the US economy.
