Trump says he plans to put a 100% tariff on computer chips, likely pushing up cost of electronics

What 'war with China'? Taiwan is not at war.
There is a truce in the Chinese Civil War, and in the Korean War. There has never been a peace agreement in either wars. So technically, they are still at war, just not shooting at each other. That makes almost all the high end chips in the world produced in technical war zones.

By the way, it has never officially changed its name from Republic of China to Taiwan. It still has a dormant claim to the rest of China.

I have seen Surface Mount machines in operation and they are amazing.
I used to be quite impressed with it, back in the 1980's. It was originally invented by the East Germans, back before the wall came down.
What was invented by the 'East Germans', Wally?
How are you having trouble following the conversation above?

You mention surface mounted components. I mentioned they are old hat, and were actually invented in East Germany, a country that has not existed in 35 years or so.

There is a truce in the Chinese Civil War,
What 'Chinese Civil War', Wally? China is not currently at war.
and in the Korean War.
What 'Korean War', Wally? Neither Korea is currently at war.
There has never been a peace agreement in either wars.
There certainly has.
So technically, they are still at war, just not shooting at each other.
What 'war', Wally?
That makes almost all the high end chips in the world produced in technical war zones.
IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SERIOUSLY ARGUING?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
By the way, it has never officially changed its name from Republic of China to Taiwan. It still has a dormant claim to the rest of China.
No, Wally. It's called Taiwan. Taiwan is not part of China.

How are you having trouble following the conversation above?
You are describing yourself, Wally.
You mention surface mounted components.
Never did, Wally.
I mentioned they are old hat, and were actually invented in East Germany, a country that has not existed in 35 years or so.
Surface mount components were not invented in East Germany, Wally.

Actually, no. Not at all. I could care less if I lose my job. I do not think I really fully realized that before you posed that question.
Unemployed, eh?
No they are not. That is just silly on the surface of it.
Components are made in house, Wally. They are basically custom to each robot and brand.
OK. Your opinion of me means nothing to me. I hope you are having a nice night.
Obviously, it does; but no matter, you are a nothing.

There is a truce in the Chinese Civil War,

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I think you should let your bosses in Peking (Beijing) know that they didn't win the war. I'm sure they will appreciate you questioning their legitimacy.

and in the Korean War. There has never been a peace agreement in either wars.

LOL - bullshit.

Korea is a ceasefire but Communist China was recognized in 1976, by the USA and the UN - along with virtually every other nation on earth. You're spewing more Walt level idiocy that you just made up.

So technically, they are still at war, just not shooting at each other.

You're full of shit.

That makes almost all the high end chips in the world produced in technical war zones.

If that were true - it would be all the more reason to ensure domestic production. But of course chips are made all over. Singapore being the country that produces most of the chips used in consumer products.

By the way, it has never officially changed its name from Republic of China to Taiwan. It still has a dormant claim to the rest of China.

The Republic of China can claim what they want - Communist China was recognized over 50 years ago. This is just more "Always lying Walt" idiocy.

So your link says SVG - the American company Silicon Valley Group - is the leader in this sort of IC fabrication.

Ooops - guess your China First line just collapsed.
Oops - reading is hard.

Intel, Canon, and Nikon (leaders in the field at the time), as well as the Dutch company ASML and Silicon Valley Group (SVG) all sought licensing. In 2001, SVG was acquired by ASML, helping ASML become the leading benefactor of the critical technology.

ASML has manufacturing locations around the world including Taiwan, China, and South Korea. ASML makes the machines that make ICs.
ASML produces the photolithography machines used in the production of integrated circuits, called "scanners"
