Even if they're exonerated or otherwise escape the penalties of the law, remember: the process is punishment.

They can't be exonerated. That they assisted in an attempted coup is historical fact. But they could be acquitted. But you're right - the process is a punishment in it's own right.
I don't. Even if he is convicted, I expect fines and probation. The democrats will howl loudly even about that.
For the courts, not the public.
He's guilty - we all know it. The court still must treat him as innocent - we have no obligation to do so. We all saw him lie to Congress.

He lied to congress. No ifs, ands, or buts. Will he be judged "not guilty by reason of being a party member?" Quit possibly.
The process is punishment.
That is not justice, nor anything resembling justice.
