Michael Byrd's Actions During the Incident

Officer's Position and Commands

  • Lt. Michael Byrd was holding his service pistol when he confronted Ashli Babbitt.

He never "confronted" her. She was not facing him at any time before he fired. Video evidence is 100% clear on that.
  • He repeatedly yelled for her to "stop" and "get back" as she attempted to climb through a barricaded door.

According to him. The video and sound evidence say otherwise.

Context of the Shooting

  • Byrd was positioned to protect members of Congress during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

No, he wasn't. He was in an empty office in an empty hallway and not clearly visible to protesters on the other side of the doorway Babbitt crawled through. Again, video evidence is 100% conclusive on that.
  • He had set up a barricade and was aware of the imminent threat posed by the rioters.

This is pure fantasy. Again, video evidence is 100% proof he's lying if he claimed that. Oh, there were also 5 or 6 other Capitol Police mixed in with the protesters on the other side of that doorway from where Byrd was. Video and sound evidence is 100% conclusive on that.

Babbitt's Response

  • Despite Byrd's commands, Babbitt continued to advance towards the barricaded area.

All the video and sound evidence says otherwise. Byrd, if this is what he's claiming, is lying.
  • Witnesses confirmed that multiple officers, including Byrd, warned her before the shooting occurred.

This too is untrue. You can hear clearly that some of the PROTESTERS start shouting about a gun on the video and sound evidence but there is no clear warning of the sort that a police officer would give.

CNBC Wikipedia
Byrd had a long history of being a fuck up as a police officer with multiple infractions and incidents in his career. That he was promoted to Lieutenant (a managerial position) argues that he was an affirmative action hire that otherwise would have been fired for his fuck ups, including having left (lost) his service weapon in a public bathroom, along with his radio, which were found and turned in by a civilian tourist of the Capitol building that found them. That one alone would be career ending for any police officer.

Multiple witnesses say he gave no warning before he shot her. She was looking straight forward and he was not in her field of vision. There are three videos of the shooting and you will not find Byrd giving a warning in any of them. NBC has been shown to be a liberally biased "news" source. NBC owned MSNBS which was extremely biased. You need better sources. If you can find Byrd issuing a warning on video I'll admit error.

She was making her way through a broken window in the middle of an assault on congress.

She was a criminal killed in the commission of a felony.

Quite deservingly I might add.

You guys are a real piece of work. Let me give you an example of how your brains operate.. Whenever a black person is commanded by a cop to do something and tries to walk or run away, and the cop shoots him, you say it was the person's own fault for not obeying an order from law enforcement. The same thing happened with Babbitt and you make her into a martyr. I watched it occur in real time. Ashli and the other rioters were threatening people, destroying property, breaking glass and trying to get through a closed and barricaded door. What gave them the right to disobey orders from law enforcement? It wasn't only Byrd who was trying to control the mob but of course you have to scapegoat him.

Who and what gave these people the idea that they could take the law into their own hands (besides trump, that is,) just because they were pissed about a lost election?

No, Son. 100% of what I wrote is fact.

I realize you, being a tRumpling, don't really understand what that means though.
No, it's not. It's the narrative that emerged afterwards since both the Capitol Police, and Democrats didn't want to prosecute a senior police officer for incompetence. The video evidence is 100% conclusive. Byrd acted improperly and by his own admission fled the scene after shooting Babbitt.

By the way, the DOJ settled out of court for $5 million with Babbitt's family for wrongful death. That's right, they bought off her relatives rather than go to court on this matter.

I'm on nobody's side here. The facts are the facts. Byrd was a fuck up and he wrongfully killed Babbitt because he was totally incompetent and possibly a coward. Babbitt was wrong climbing through that window, but that doesn't mean she should have been shot and killed for it.

How was he able to shoot her in the neck and shoulder if she wasn't facing him?

How about showing me a video from someone other than NBC that gives a different view of the incident, then? You won't be able to find one. You're just criticizing NBC because you think they're too liberal.

I have lots of factual evidence back my arguments up. You guys keep giving vague, apologist versions of this incident parroting what the Left and Democrats claim without ever actually looking at the facts.

It is YOU that has the problem.

Byrd was a total fuck up. He wrongfully shot Babbitt. That doesn't excuse her actions, but it doesn't exonerate Byrd either.

You're hilarious. "I'm on nobody's side" right before you lambaste Byrd. You are one of the most RW-biased persons on JPP.

Fake news.

Witnesses, including congress-critters who were present, confirm the truth.

The facts are the fact, and your fake narrative is not a fact no matter how much you want it to be.

There's video. Byrd issued zero warnings and made zero attempts to use less than lethal force. Worse, after shooting her, he fled the scene. Since when can a police officer, any police officer, shoot someone and run from the scene of that shooting?
Since when?

Since always in the midst of a mob riot.

Cops do not stay and render aid when a mob is trying to advance and they are actively protecting their charges.

You say all this but you can't respond to my question about who gave these rioters the idea that they could hurt people, destroy property and otherwise take the law into their own hands over a lost election.

Who gave these people the idea that they could change the results of a valid election by their illegal actions?

He fire his weapon in the direction of other LEO who were behind Ashli Babbitt. VERY VERY reckless.

Yup @T. A. Gardner is delusional and lying.

I dare him to try and march towards Trump, while the security detail is demanding he stop. Just do it in the same way Ashley was and keeping advancing while believing that is not a threat and see what happens.

Ashley FAFO and America was made better for it.

Watch the videos. There's plenty of them of Byrd shooting her.

There were at least a half-dozen uniformed police officers mixed in with the protesters at that point. If Babbitt's actions were such that lethal force was required, why did none of those officers act? Clearly the protesters weren't trying to disarm the police mixed in with them.

Byrd fucked up and the Capitol Police and Democrats had every reason to cover that up.

So are you OK with the police shooting unarmed people?

Another delusional version of events coupled with a fallacy fallacy.
