No we do not produce enough oil for our demand,Because of expense, environmental concerns, transportation issues (we already nixed the XL tar sands-carrying pipeline for those two latter reasons). We produce enough crude to cover our domestic needs. The problem is that it's a global commodity so if the oil companies can sell it overseas for more than they'd get keeping it at home, they will.
We produce about 13,7 MBPD and we consume about 20.3 MBPD.
