U.S.: More teens smoke marijuana than cigarettes

More high school seniors this year used marijuana than smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days, according to government data released Tuesday.
In addition, daily marijuana use increased significantly among eighth-, 10th- and 12th-graders, with about one in 16 high school seniors using marijuana daily or near-daily, the annual "Monitoring the Future Survey" found.

Teens in all three grades exhibited more favorable attitudes toward the drug, according to the national survey of more than 46,000 teens

i'm so glad we're spending MILLIONS of dollars every year to fight the war on drugs with the majority fighting marijuana

this is such a waste of fucking money, why did prohibition last only 10 years and this crap has to last decades?

Oh it's far more than millions. It's billions. And that doesn't even factor the money lost in other areas (loss of life, waste of court and police time, etc.). However it does serve one useful purpose (to the government). It serves to create a felon class in America.

whenever we decide we'd like a boom coming out of this recession we'll treat it like beer and tax the billions in sales.

:palm:

i meant billions...sheesh, i've said it so many times

and it serves to grant the government more power and intrusion into our private affairs

i don't think it would be a boom, but it certaintly would add money to the government coffers instead of costing us billions a year and then billions more to incarcerate them and then millions more to have parole agents

hell, we could have an unemployment class if we just legalized ganga..../hyperbole

If you know a high school student that will be honest, they more than likely will tell you "70% to 90% of students are smoking pot".

Prohibition kills innocent people everyday.:(

Taking tax payers off the street and running them through the legal system is stupid.

Such an idea would do away with drug cartels almost overnight.

Our slave owners aren't going to give up that easy.

this is good as cigarettes are more addictive

however, we should legalize mj for adults and make penalties for sell/distributing to minors a more serious crime

And more men drink beer than water. :)

Things are looking up for the youth in the US. :clink:

i didn't intend to imply that i support herb legalization for minors...it should be treated like alcohol, though it does not have the same effects or harm, i don't believe anyone should have it until they can buy alcohol

btw...i do support lower the age to 18...21 is an arbitrary age that does nothing at all to stop 18-20 year olds from drinking

and if a doctor prescribes it, then of course that is an exception to the minor status

Then why not lower it to 17?
