..."Claire Hirschkind, 56, who says she is a rape victim and who has a pacemaker-type device implanted in her chest, says her constitutional rights were violated. She says she never broke any laws. But the Transportation Security Administration disagrees.

Hirschkind was hoping to spend Christmas with friends in California, but she never made it past the security checkpoint.

"I can't go through because I have the equivalent of a pacemaker in me," she said.

Hirschkind said because of the device in her body, she was led to a female TSA employee and three Austin police officers. She says she was told she was going to be patted down.

"I turned to the police officer and said, 'I have given no due cause to give up my constitutional rights. You can wand me,'" and they said, 'No, you have to do this,'" she said.

Hirschkind agreed to the pat down, but on one condition.

"I told them, 'No, I'm not going to have my breasts felt,' and she said, 'Yes, you are,'" said Hirschkind.

When Hirschkind refused, she says that "the police actually pushed me to the floor, (and) handcuffed me. I was crying by then. They drug me 25 yards across the floor in front of the whole security."

An ABIA spokesman says it is TSA policy that anyone activating a security alarm has two options. One is to opt out and not fly, and the other option is to subject themselves to an enhanced pat down. Hirschkind refused both and was arrested..."

This is getting uglier and uglier~

Do you agree with Ron Paul?

"...While millions of Americans undoubtedly welcome any TSA indignity under the guise of "preventing terrorism," millions more are not willing to give blind obedience to arbitrary authority. TSA creates only a false sense of security, at great cost not only financially but also in terms of our dignity. How we as Americans react to authoritarian agencies like TSA is an indicator of how much we still value freedom over our persons and effects..."

People traded their freedom for "security" and this is the result...now they are whining because they don't like the world their fear helped create.
People did not trade anything....people didn't have a choice and have been bitching about the TSA and their methods and lack of common sense in the screening process since it started....

It is being FORCED on us....

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...and that's why the Tea Party was such a force to be reckoned with back in 2004. Because people were outraged over ridiculous TSA screening processes and overall Government intrusion.

Oh wait...that excuse only came into play AFTER Conservatives had been voted out.

"The Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA, Pub.L. 107-71 November 19, 2001) was enacted by the 107th United States Congress in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The Act created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within the U.S. Department of Transportation. However, with the passage of the Homeland Security Act, the TSA was later transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.

The legislation (S. 1447) was sponsored by Democratic Senator Fritz Hollings and co-sponsored by 30 other Senators.

Prior to ATSA, passenger screening was the responsibility of airlines, with the actual duties of operating the screening checkpoint contracted-out to private firms such as Wackenhut, Globe, and ITS..."

It is noteworthy that there were very few complaints in the early years of the TSA, even under the D. of Homeland Sec.

It wasn't until Dems. took over control of the TSA that they overdosed on their power trip....harassing most passengers,.. children, women, those with disabilities, especially those that dared complain... that the trouble started....molesting women, some children, etc....
Scanner images appeared on the internet (against the law)....people actually arrested for refusing the mandatory "feel up" by TSA employees....

So you're kinda right.....though I don't know wtf the Tea Party folks have to do with it....I don't recall them being particularly vocal about the TSA's trampling of our rights....

And you're happy with this tsa thuggery to makes sure americans "get what they deserve". We gotcha.

The latest procedures don't bother me in the least.

I don't fly...at all...never been a fan and refuse to spend half a day waiting in line.

I much rather prefer driving where I need to go. I get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this great country and I don't have to deal with ridiculous, time consuming searches.

You mean Janet Napolitano?

"The new technology, the pat-downs, is just objectively safer for our traveling public," Napolitano said. "We pick up contraband now, and we pick up more contraband with the new procedures and the new machinery. What we know is that you can't measure the devices that we are deterring from going on a plane."

So you're on board with mandatory molestation to punish americans.

Mandatory molestation?

The woman in question had something similar to a pacemaker installed. Guess how many people saw her breasts. Certainly more than one doctor. Most probably the entire operating room staff including assisting nurses and the anesthesiologist and even a maintenance engineer or two if their services were required in the general area of the operating rooms. We can even throw in a cleaning person if there was a spill to attend to.

To paraphrase Dorthy, "Doctors and nurses and janitors. Oh, my!!"

I'm sure those airport security personnel have had their thrill of "molesting".

Maybe "AssHatZombie" just likes to stay abreast of the situation.

So here comes the big mommy government apologist, waving their sheer unadulterated total ignorance of anything resembling reality to defend big mommy government tossing peoples' rights away like used toilet paper.

The procedure which puts a pace maker in place does not, in any way, require a female patient's breasts to be exposed. At best one prep nurse may have seen her while getting her ready. In any surgery, specialized gowns are used so that only the area actually worked on is exposed, the rest is covered. So much for that ignorant piece of shit excuse.

Second, pace makers can be sensitive to EM radiation - so she had a very good reason for not wanting to go through the full-body scanner.

Third, the 4th Amendment specifically states that we are supposed to be safe from unreasonable searches. Feeling a woman's breasts in an enhanced pat down pretty much defines unreasonable in any one's book except brain dead big mommy, government-can-do-no-wrong (unless they are republican) twits.

Simple fact of the matter is TSA has been WAY beyond the scope of reasonable in innumerable cases, and the current administration's "this is necessary" excuses would not be tolerated for one microsecond if Bush were the one saying it. Why does Obama get a pass on this shit? Anyone of you brain dead totalitarian liberal democratic assholes want to tell me why?

It's time for lawsuits. BIG class action lawsuits against TSA, every mindless drone fuckup working for them, AND the totalitarian government functionaries writing the so called "policies" the drones keep siting to defend their power-trip actions. (Policies, not laws - which makes the whole thing that much worse.)

And you're right...the cowards who traded freedom for security by voting for the politicians who created this situation get exactly what they deserve.
And those of us who voted against the assholes that put the current heads of DHS and TSA in place? We deserve the same?

You are aware, aren't you, that the first full body scanners were installed in March of this year, right? You are aware that the policies for use of full body scans, or the option of enhanced pat-downs was written and enacted by the people appointed by the CURRENT administration, right?

You should also be aware that the average person who identifies with the Tea party movement voted against the current administration. Even the most brain dead of liberal idiots know that much.

So, what is you point again? That it's YOUR fault for helping to vote in the assholes who are trading our liberties for (false) security, but you don't give a shit because you don't fly? Is that your message?

Yes, when the actual operation is taking place only the area being operated on is exposed. If you think the doctor or other operating room personnel stay outside until the patient is modestly attired you're the one who is ignorant.

And, yes, I did work in a hospital as an engineer and I have entered operating rooms in an emergency to change the nitrous oxide bottle on portable units if the Anaesthesiologist felt there may be a shortage, usually due to an operation taking more time than planned. In one instance I entered an operating room during a leg amputation and although the person was covered I assure you the garment was not all neatly tucked in, if you get my drift.

I've also checked a possible leaking oxygen wall unit while the patient, appearing comatose, was being examined by a doctor. Again, modesty was not a priority.

Besides, the purpose of covering is to avoid contamination. It is not due to modesty concerns.

As for her refusing to be scanned that was her choice. It was also her choice not to fly. It is not her choice to dictate security procedures.

As for Obama getting a pass reality is what it is. Times are what they are. No one is obliged to fly, therefore, no one is obliged to submit to a pat down.

There is nothing sexual going on so I suggest folks get their mind out of the gutter and grow up.
