No, I went by what Gingrich actually said. HE said he went to see how she was doing and they ended up getting into an argument about the divorce.

Also... in saying he 'sought to discuss the terms of their divorce' YOU are implying that was his intention. So either back that up or quit making shit up.

Now, Gingrich has has plenty of opportunity since 1985 to say that he did not want to discuss the terms of his divorce during the hospital visit and that his wife, fresh out of surgery, insisted on it, but I haven't seen him make that claim. And it isn't a terribly believable scenario that she really really wanted to discuss divorce terms in a divorce she was contesting while she was recovering from surgery and Newt came to visit her uninvited (recall that the kids asked if it was OK for Daddy to come up).

Actually, we don't have a he said/she said. First, no one disputes that divorce terms were discussed. Second, I haven't seen Gingrich ever deny the fact that he sought to discuss divorce terms with her.

Moreover, even assuming that he did dispute that he wanted to discuss divorce terms, it isn't a credible scenario that he showed up at the hospital uninvited and that she, while recovering from surgery, wanted to discuss terms with him after their children asked if it was OK for Daddy to visit her. It isn't plausible.

Yes, that quote came FIVE years after the event. Again, you have NO idea what happened. You absolutely have no idea that he intended to go their to discuss the divorce. All you have is that five years later she said he wanted to discuss the divorce 'when he got there'. You seem to think that proves your case. It does not.

Actually, I know that they discussed divorce terms. That much we should all be able to agree on. From there we look at her statement, the circumstances surrounding the visit, and at his non-denial of what she said occurred (they argued is about all Newt has said notwithstanding multiple opportunities to correct the record) and we can each decide for ourselves what version of events sounds more plausible. That a woman fresh out of surgery whose husband (separated, pending a divorce that she is contesting) shows up uninvited at the hospital decided to talk terms or that Newt brought the matter up.

Moreover, even if you believe that she brought it up, what kind of person actually engages in an argument over divorce terms with a person fresh out of surgery? The fact that they argued over the issue is repulsive enough.

Battley said in the 1985 interview that her husband’s desire for a divorce came as “a complete surprise” to her, but Gingrich was quoted in the same story as saying the two had talked about divorce “off and on since 1969.”
