Feel Good Video Of The Day: Occupy D.C. Protester Tased By Police…

If they were serving their own interest and protecting themselves do you think they'd take a job with bad hours in lousy weather with a good chance of getting kicked in the teeth by some drunken guy who's "just asserting his rights". Hell no, they'd find some nice easy job somewhere in the warm where they don't have to clean up somebody decides to wander through K-mart with an AK.
your user name suits you well.

Just a bit of humour tinged with some truth.

between my freedom and the life of someone who would unlawfully take it.........gee, tough choice. yeah, i'm going with my freedom over the unlawful actions of a moron who thinks the weight of his badge makes him untouchable.

Whilst disagreeing a lot with you on some issues, I find your views on this particular point to be very close to my own. Police have to be accountable for their actions, they do not get a free pass otherwise you end up with a police state. By the way, I love that expression badge blower.

STY the kind of person who thinks that if he says, "liberty and freedom" enough in his arguments it will cover up the fact that he's arguing picking up a gun and shooting the people who come to help you when somebody is trying to kill you.

I disagree profoundly with his avowed love of guns, but he has to be listened to when he says that the powerful need to kept in check.

Do you ever have a point?

Mostly that your point, yours and STY's is that all our freedom is gone, cops will shoot you and that the government plots maniacally to steal your rights and only tireless intervention from anarchists fools and poor people, prevents the death of all "liberty" and "freedom" Go peddle your gospel in the sticks, some of us actually have dealt with law enforement before.

diall 911 and die. when seconds matter, the police are only minutes away. If you don't have your own gun on you when someone is trying to kill you, you're most likely going to die. The only reason the police will get called if someone tries to kill me will be me reporting that I killed someone in self defense.

STY and Rune are on opposite sides of the political spectrum, yet you choose to ignore their common concerns. :palm:

and from the sound of it, you're quite comfortable doing that on your knees.

But most likely no one is ever going to try and kill you.

I have real stuff to think about.

You are a perfect example of the failure of No child left behind.

The dumbing down of the population. Hard to miss something you don't know you have lost.

Answer me this; Do you believe that there is still a presumption of innocence?

Not that I like cops. And you have the right to defend yourself against a cop.

But no one is ever going to try and kill anyone on this board. Well, maybe this board is a bad example. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if a statistically unusual high number of posters here end up as murder, or attempted murder victims.

But for the most part, it's not going to happen. Worry about something else!

times are hard all over, and getting worse. I'm glad to know that your 'real' stuff to think about doesn't include protecting yourself. please, do us all a favor and wear a sign around your neck that says you have no intention of defending yourself, so commit any crime on me you'd like.

I know there is a presumption of innocence, otherwise every person would be stopped on the street while the cops interrogated him to see what they're guilty of.
The problem from the system's perspective is this. Cops want to clear cases so they have to make an arrest, they find the suspect that looks like they done it, then they make that arrest. They see it simply that they've found the person who most likely "done it" and then they leave it to the courts to hammer out innocence or guilt.
This in itself is not a problem, you arrest the guy who has the most evidence pointing at them. Fine

Then you move on to the prosecution system, prosecutors want to win, they want to have the highest conviction rate in their group so they can move up the ladder and stay employed. Therefore they make deals, they assume that the person the police arrested is guilty because otherwise why would they be arrested. Then they try to get as much time for the suspect as possible because you don't want criminals on the streets. So now whether or not you're innocent the prosecutor is going to be doing everything they can to make sure you do time.

Then you move on to the corrections system where you spend time among lots of people who've either done crimes or have spent so much time among criminals that they act like them. You learn to either be a victim or a victimizer. Then you get out and bring that mindset back into society and the workforce so nobody will hire you and you're locked back into the victimize others or become a victim mentality.

This is what happens to people who fall through the cracks in the system. There's a gap between police making the arrest of the suspect and the convict who walks out of the court.

Oh and calling me a sheep of the government over and over again isn't an argument, it's a whiny kids refusal to lose.

Another victim of media sensationalizing of crime. Go look up some actual statistics rather than just sit in your house scared of strangers.

According the the UCR there were 17,000 incidents of murder in 2006. A large number however, thats 5.7 per 100,000 in the US. Since a peak in the early 1990's when it was up to almost 10 per 100,000 the number of murder's in relation to the population has actually been decreasing to sit where it is now for about 10 years, again UCR. You can talk about how the times are hard but the stats just don't support you.

Incidentally you're more likely to get murdered in Denver than in New York.
