New research shows dolphins can be straight, bisexual or gay.

"Pairs, trios or small groups of male dolphins will form exclusive groups that are sexual, social, and sustainable. One herd of seven males spent 17 years together in an intimate and affectionate clique."

So much for the "its unnatural argument".

I've gotta say - one of my least favorite arguments, on any topic, is that "it's a choice."

That has always amazed me when used on the topic of homosexuality. Who would choose to be ostrasized and reviled like gays have been for most of mankind's history? Who would choose to be disowned by their family or barred from so many jobs or social events?

i've often wondered just how the researchers know the dolphins or other animals realize they are being gay...i'm not sure they are even aware.

They have documented grief, joy, fear, anger and other emotions in dolphins. And if you repeatedly see a pair of male dolphins acting in the same manner as a mating pair, including sexual contact, bonding and creating a pod, its a pretty good bet they are gay.

maybe...what about a dog humping a male dog or a person's leg?

Well there's that and the Tiffany accessorized blow hole is pretty much a dead give away too.

Much of a male dog humping another male dog is about dominance, not sexual behavior. But this does not equate to what was observed in the dolphins. As stated in the quote I posted "One herd of seven males spent 17 years together in an intimate and affectionate clique.".

That goes a bit beyond humping.

Dominance and submission are aspects of sexual behavior. Otherwise the dog on top wouldn't be so aroused.

I think we should compare everything humans do with animals because that's always exactly the same thing. This would make it unnatural to drive your car, you evil bastard!

true...i just wonder if they even realize it. we can't talk to them and verify it. i think using animal behavior to justify homosexuality behavior or feelings in humans is misguided. it would be like using an example of an animal sleeping with many different mates to justify adultery.
