1 Out Of Every 509 Americans Has Died Of COVID

You had a choice: It was a long post covering various topics and I snipped out a section for discussion. You had the choice of discussing it or becoming offended because I clipped a post for brevity. You chose being offended.

Had I clipped it out of context, I'd agree it would have been inappropriate, but that's not why you were offended, was it?

Yes, I took a lot out, but did you really expect me to write back on every point? You travel a lot. Business or a Flight Attendant? What are your favorite countries or cities? I traveled a lot myself, both the Western Pacific and the Mediterranean countries for extended periods and a few other places temporarily. The Far East interests me most due to an interest in Eastern Philosophy.

Did you graduate college? Any additional training? BA Psych, MS Int'l Rel. The majority of my "gender studies" were human sexuality classes, I & II but there were tangential classes since human sexuality is so closely tied to psychology and sociology.

Oh, Dutch. I overestimated you. A lot. For the five hundredth time you evaded the question. Not that we didn't notice. You have a way of repeating yourself until no one can hear you and presuming truth when you're actually a low-class troll.

My post covered one topic: Gender identity. It was at your direct request. Look back if you feel inclined to snap out of your coma. I can't help fix your brain.

It was the topic you asked me to address.

Why don't you expand on your interest in Western Pacific, Mediterranean, and Far East counties. I'd love to know.

I did graduate from a couple of colleges. Training to the gills. So now you "remember" that you had two gender studies when you completely forgot that earlier today? Did you graduate college? What additional training do you have?

Wait. You have a bachelor's in psychology? From where? What about the master's degree? International relations, you say? Where from?

Hello Dutch,

That's what most of the world has realized. A mixture of capitalism and socialism, get the balance right.

If we took away the labels almost everyone with good sense would agree that is what exists, needs to exist and has always existed in any
country that works.

So want people to make good and services?
So you want prices stable?
So you want consumers to be educated and no be lied to?
So you don't want companies to collude and fix prices?
So you want employers to have autonomy and make sure their workers have to follow their rules and show up and work?

All this and a 1000 more means free enterprise and fair rules. Fair rules require someone to oversee it and enforce compliance against rule breaking
else its unfair competition.

If having a referee makes football "socialist" call me carl Marx.

Hello Dutch,

Socialism for needs. Capitalism for wants. Big government to regulate every market where people can get ripped off, or the environment could get harmed. Logic and sense. Organization. Law and order. Stability. Security. Freedom where possible. Oversight where needed. Responsible elected bodies to determine the when how and where this is all appropriate. A well informed and actively engaged populace to oversee government. The responsibility lies with all of us.

Government haters get lost. We need patriots who get the big picture.

Agreed the larger points. However, Freedom is an unalienable right. There's no "possible" to it. The only rule is don't hurt anyone.

The Big Picture goes back to education and Critical Thinking....and the lack thereof in American schools and the public.

I did not use that phrase at DP or anywhere else other than perhaps a handful of times, you are lying yet again. I have for several decades been called a chicken little but then the arc of history largely pronounced me at least partly correct in my concerns.....I dont get called that much anymore.......that is what being right a high percentage of the time has earned me.

DP failed when they pushed me out using in part Mod Abuse to do it. I put up a lot of great content there, it was better for me being there.

The right has not been proven correct about anything in decades dude

Nothing but lies and failure

It's amazing you stoop to pay attention to me. Awesome sauce!

My bother says that the Right has for a long time now mostly not believed in anything, they are all about what they can get for themselves, in spite of their constant claims to the contrary.

There is a lot of truth in that.

You lived in Greeley? Sweet. I went to CU. I got bachelor's in poli sci and education there. Then I taught high school for a year. Then I got my JD from George Washington.
Only for my last two years of college. The first two I lived near Denver and went to Arapaho Community College. The bunker building was brand new then.

I went to a couple of great concerts at Folsom Stadium over the summers of ‘77 and ‘78. There were never any in Greeley that I remember. Might have been at CSU. Orion’s Belt was big in Fort Collins at the time.

I used to shy away from the 'socialist' label. Without realizing it, I had partially bought in to the right wing propaganda. I never really thought about it. I decided to find out for myself. Curiosity. The willingness to learn. I read 'Atlas Shrugged.' Ugh! (What a rambling screed so badly in need of a good editor) And utter BS. Like Twilight Zone kinda stuff. I researched about Marx. About that time, Bernie was running for the US Senate. I was also listening to NPR and a program called Economic Update. (Great show, btw - available as a weekly podcast at that link.)

I realized there was nothing wrong with basic modern socialism ideas. I realized I had been led astray by the right wing propaganda machine. I sent Bernie a donation to help him become a Senator, even though I do not reside in his State. Gradually, my impressions were changing. But still, I would not identify as socialist. I shied away from the term and avoided it, even though I couldn't really see anything wrong with the basic concepts. There was just such a pox on the word.

Then Bernie ran for president. He openly campaigned on the idea of Democratic Socialism. Modern socialism. Not the boogie man stories of the right wing propaganda. I donated to his presidential campaign, too. That was when I realized things were changing. Bernie had taken the pox off the word. Moderates were no longer afraid of embracing the term. Young people liked what they were hearing from Bernie. I decided I would get behind it. I would no longer be afraid to support the sensible concepts of European style socialism.

It just makes sense for a society to do some things in a collective way for the good of society. Coordinated, organized group efforts for the good of the group. It's logical.

The right lost me because their BS had been exposed. I felt like I had been lied to and cheated out of true understanding by the right.

The more I learn, the better I feel about walking away from the right. I went from being a Republican to no party to joining the Democratic Party. I can't imagine ever going back.

Socialism doesn't work as a stand-alone system above the village/tribal level. Jus' sayin'.

The reason isn't the system but the people. 10% of any group are assholes who cause 90% of the problems. As we can see, most of those 10% move into politics. It doesn't matter if they are Democrats, Republicans or Socialists; the ranks of any group given power will soon be fully populated by assholes trying to fuck over everyone else for their own benefit.

It's funny. I began listening to NPR because I got tired of commercials. It seemed like commercials got way more annoying than they had ever been. It's like, they used to be respectful; they would give their little pitch, promo a product, maybe have a catchy little jingle, whatever. I don't know. It seemed like, over the years, they got to be more aggressive, more annoying. And they got to be too much. There was so little actual programming, and so much time devoted to commercials. When I'm in the car I don't want commercials. I just wanted music.

It seemed like the commercials were so aggressive and attention-getting that they disturbed the moment. And I really began to resent the way the volume would go up for the commercials and then get dropped lower for the programming. That pissed me off. I began flipping stations in the car. Commercial comes on, boom, I'm outta there. It was like I imagined an invisible hand would come out of the car speaker, grip me by the neck, slap me back and forth across the face a few times and scream into my face: "BUY OUR CARS!!! BUY OUR CARS!!!" I had had enough.

I found NPR. There was some strange stuff. Different music, talk shows, but no commercials. It was like an oasis. I began to like it. I wasn't crazy about the talk shows but it was better than commercials. After a while I began to pay attention to the talk shows. They made sense. They were talking in ordinary tones, not trying to sell anything, no hype, just relaying information. Good information. Things I could relate to, Things I could later verify by checking them out on the internet. Politics. It was so interesting. I became fascinated.

I tried to share my ideas with people at work. That's when I found out why there is a pox on political discussions. People can't talk about politics without getting angry. I was losing friends at work. I decided to quit trying to talk about politics there. Saved my job. I needed an outlet. I found online chat rooms. I was hooked. I never did get the anger thing. I began in well-moderated chat rooms. I had no Ignore List. I was proud to be able to say I could 'take it' and talk to anybody.

But, of course, moderation only goes so far. People always tested the limits. The spite came through. I never got that. Politics doesn't make me angry. I don't want hatred in my life. I already knew hatred only hurts the one doing the hating. I began to wonder what it was worth to be able to say I had nobody on Ignore. I realized that was only cred among those who wanted to dish out abuse online. I put up with it for over a decade. I began to wonder what it would be like without that. I decided to try it out. I began to test the Ignore feature.

I created a meaningful test to see how it was. I already knew how to control habits. Habits can be created or changed, but it takes 2-3 weeks. All you do is consciously change your behavior for a period of 2-3 weeks. You can end bad habits or create good ones that way. After the 2-3 weeks, you don't have to think about it any more. The new behavior becomes your new habit. You just automatically do it the new way, whatever it is. One thing that is helpful is to replace a bad habit with a good one.

So I knew any meaningful test of using the Ignore feature would have to last 3 weeks to fully appreciate the experience. I immediately put everybody who had abused me on Ignore. I never told them! I just did it. Of course, I stopped responding to them. I was really curious at first. I peeked a little bit. Sure, they talked about me. They guessed what was up. And then they forgot about me. I wasn't providing any feedback to them. I realized they needed that. I guess it wasn't worth abusing someone if they never got the feedback, if they never learned they 'got to' somebody. That was it. Attention! That's all they wanted. They didn't care how they got it. If they had to be an A-hole to get it, that didn't matter.

How pathetic. I realized I had made a good decision. I don't need that vibe in my life. I never went back. I only wanted to talk to people who could talk without the need to abuse the person they are talking to. I made my new system permanent. When I came in here, I simply announced in my very first post that I wanted anyone who wanted to dish up abuse to let me have it. I explained that I wanted to build an effective Ignore List right from the start. It worked. I love it.

Well, of course, socialism alone is no good. And that's the thing about RW propaganda. It's all based on this incorrect RW propaganda assumption that "once socialism gets started it destroys capitalism." BS. That is straight out of the fictional "Atlas Shrugged." It's not reality.

Nearly every nation has realized the practicality of mixing socialism with capitalism. The best of both worlds.

That's what works.

Imagine that. The RW propaganda is BS.

Too bad conservatives don't get it. You can't tell them. You can try, but they have this other BS that prevents them from believing anything a non-conservative says. It's a cult. Sad. Our nation could be so much better. It holds us back, causes most of our problems.
