$7.25 an hour is not a living wage (Well Duh?!!)

why would we do that?

You see just because your shit is lies doesn't mean we will do things that make no sense

Obama has nothing to do with this, it's the GOP and Business who have resisted minimum wage increases over the years! Remember they kept the minimum wage at $5.15 for almost ten years! (1997-2006)

Minimum wage fast-food jobs were viewed as jobs for teenagers or beginners’ jobs. Obama has made these 'beginners jobs' the only jobs left in his failing economy.

Siggy, being a pinhead hooked on cartoons, doesn't get the point of Stormx's post....

A business doesn't adjust pricing because their customer for a raise.

I have NO idea what you are trying to say here. The single biggest cost to any organization is labor. If your labor costs go up due to arbitrary Government "feel good" regulations in a low margin operation like Grocery Stores or Wallmart, then yes, you will have to increase your prices, or cut costs somewhere else; perhaps in your labor hours, or automate.

I believe that most union contracts are based on minimum wage rates; which is why unions fight to increase those minimums...it increases union wages. So yes, arbitrary Government demands to raise minimum wages will result in price inflation which will result in a new equilibrium that basically leaves individuals in the same economic category they were in before the increase.

In simpler terms for dullard brain dead leftists; things will remain the same and those earning minimum wage will see no increase in their living standards. In some cases, perhaps leaving them with less.

Amen to that; but we are debating brain dead simpletons who are trained little monkeys that parrot leftist DNC canards.

If it makes sense to raise it to 9 or 10 or 15 dollars an hour, why not 20 or 25 or 30 dollars an hour.....

"wage hikes don't do what the right claims they do" according to you,.............. so wtf's you point ?

how can you blame the left when the right had to announce to the world they fucked us?

The world already knew about the Dem. takeover in congress in 2006.....Bush had no reason to spell it out how they fucked us....

Everyone but the pinheads knew how Congress fucked things up, there was no reason to beat the dead horse, Bush had to try to pick up the pieces and contain the damage.

I was disputing Grinds contention that a landlord would raise his price in response to his tenant getting a raise. It doesn't work like that.

Exactly. They don't have the balls to answer because they know their entire argument for a minimum wage will fall apart

Why is $13 ridiculous and $9 isn't?

Why not make it $11.50?

How about $12.50?

Why not make it $25/hour that way we don't have to keep coming back to it and these people can finally "live their wage"?

Give me the reason why you wouldn't support a minimum wage of $13 or $25? Why is it too high?

I stated my reason in my post, but let me elaborate. It's my opinion that a modest increase to $9 or so would be enough to put it on par with the increase to 7.25 in terms of cost of living/inflation, while not putting an enormous sudden strain on employers. Most minimum wage employers have already raised their prices, and enjoyed heavy profits while keeping their labor costs down.

Since we're throwing throwing out "what if" and "why not", why not lower the minimum wage? By conservative logic it should have the opposite effect as raising it. Let's get that Trickle Down ball a rollin'.

Okay; at $7.25 an hour, which is below what most make anyway, you would gross about $15K assuming full time hours per annum. At $9 an hour that comes to about $18,450. I am curious how this makes up what constitutes a "living" wage one can survive on?

But what really perplexes me is why leftists want to make job finding nearly impossible for high school and college kids? Where will they get the workplace experiences they need to move on in life? If you make every job so expensive to employers that they can only afford to hire experienced workers trying to make a living, there will be no "entry" level opportunities for inexperienced workers.

But this notion that we should not have any low paying entry level jobs in the nation is beyond mere stupidity; it is the epitome of ignorance on an equally stupid presumption of caring more than anyone else about those in need.

The ONLY thing such proposals do is make liberals feel good about caring more than anyone else on the planet while doing nothing for them, or in many cases, hurting them more.

As someone stated earlier; if a "living wage" is really what your intent is, then you are going to have to make it about $50K per annum or in San Fran, $70K just to be slightly above poor.
