Fair enough.

For me, it's not specifically this election that changed things. What's happening now is just the latest step of a slow descent.

Herman and Chomsky had a lot to say about media influence in the book "Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media." Up until the last decade or so, some of the fiercest critics of the media were on the left, but the social left has been hijacked by corporate media, and thus, we see how Democrats are quite chummy with neocons, corporations, and media conglomerates. The observations Chomsky has made over the years hold just as true now as they did back then, but it's just more prominent among the Democrats than the Republicans now.

Chomsky is pretty good at assessing the flaws of our system, but the only flaw he seems to have is his apologism for non-Western foreign policy. He was far too forgiving of the Khmer Rouge, for example.
