$76.00 PER HOUR

Some naval personnel are worth their money, others are not.
My daughter is a year head and head of English. She is on reasonable money BUT she works, on average three and a half hours at home at the end of her full eight hour day, she works all weekends at home and at least one full Saturday at school for extra mural activities.
This summer she took two weeks holiday from the six weeks allocated because the school is changing to IB and there were a lot of meetings and discussions on syllabus. She is also on a two year (renewable) contract.
So, mister, get you facts straight before typing your biased comments.
BTW there are also useless teachers at her school who dont deserve 76 cents an hour but they tend to be very much in a minority. Eventually those will be weeded out by the quality control system in which every teacher is examined at least once per term by a senior teacher and term and exam results scrutinised at the end of every year.
The results she achieves would knock your socks off and make even the best UK stats pale into insignificance.
$76.00 per hour? No, that is not excessive.

Your experience in the UK or wherever you're posting from, mean nothing to us in the US......you are not here, describing what goes on here or in Chicago....

You're 'useless teachers' may get weeded out....here we have strong militant unions and tenure and they breed more laziness and incompetence

The results she achieves may be wonderful as you say....educated yourself on Chicago results and elsewhere in the US.....hardly wonderful, more like dismal.....

We have HS grads that cannot read on a grade-school level nor write a coherent sentence....prospective employers complain,

You take one good teacher an apply in to all.....I take the worst of our results and also apply it with a wide brush.....

There are exceptions to every rule as they say.....and have her work on your English some, looks like you could use it....

The plumber's pipes often leak.

I'm having a hard time figuring what your point is. Correct me if this is wrong. You think $75K annually is too much money for public school teachers in Chicago because every time they get a raise, someone's RE taxes increase.
.

If the teachers are making more than the people who pay their salaries, how long do you think it is sustainable?

Unless you were educated in a Chicago public school, the answer is quite obvious

Hilarious that Blabo practices "class warfare" against people earning (so he claims) more than himself...jealousy?

Poor Blabo.

BTW, Blabo, $76 @ hour (which you still haven't proven, I noticed) for a professional in a major city ain't great money...

There are many investment bankers who earn more than the people who pay them. There are many salesmen who earn more than the people who pay them.Good teachers make successful schools. Good managers play only a part in that success.

Find me a teacher that only works 5.75 hrs a day and I'll kiss your ass.

Oh, and get a number to deduct for the classroom supplies that the teachers have to buy.

Be careful, I know some part time teachers that do... you may want to restate as full time teachers... either that or get your lips ready for Bravos ass... just sayin

I think we have established that Chicago teachers are far from a success. They are about as successful as OWEbamaz foreign policy.

That u missed the point is not surprising

I haven't expressed much of an opinion either way.....I'm asking for opinions.....

but I have tried to show that other professions and even many blue collar jobs require many of the same sacrifices teachers do.....without most of the benefits.....

warm in the winter, cool in the summer, clean environment, tenure, long vacation, and substantial pay, generous pension (exempt from Soc. Sec.) etc.........tax money is not an infinite deep pocket....

taxpayers have to live too.....we also pay for food and gas and rent and clothes for the kids, etc...

I'm not going to rehash them all again.....but they are in the thread.....

I guess thats the opinion you were looking for.....many others don't enjoy 75, 000 a year and a considerable pension.....I think we need a little more
consideration for the ones paying the bills.....and when its all said and done, thats the taxpayers

A six page thread whining about the "King's Ransom" that teachers get paid, but not a peep from this guy about out the "completely devoid of sanity" salaries given to corporate CEO's.

Typical Rightie...

It is my opinion that if we truly valued our educational system and our future, we would pay our rock stars like teachers and our teachers like rock stars.

My tax dollars aren't extorted to pay a CEOs salary. Get the difference?

You are dismissed

Are you claiming that you pay taxes?

BTW, ever hear of the Bush bailout bonus bungle?

Not since the uproar over the Dubai Ports deal a few years back has so much non-partisan national anger been expressed as has been over the last week regarding bonuses paid to executives of American International Group Inc., better known as AIG.

Unfortunately for us, the American taxpayers, this money is coming out of the TARP money, given to AIG as well as other financial institutions last fall with “no strings attached.”

The rescue of AIG in particular was touted as a matter of life and death for the salvation of the economy of the United States as well as the global economy by the designer of the bailout — the Bush administration.

We were told that AIG was an insurance company that was “too big to fail.”

Yes I pay taxes. Lots of them.

As for TARP I opposed every bit of it. I would have let them all go under.

Most teachers join the profession out of a desire to educate their charges and to make better people. Some become teachers because no one else will employ them. Chicago might well have a greater proportion of the latter, but sure as hell it will have a core of good people. Do you live in Chicago? If you do you can help put thing right. If you don't, look after what you can look after and leave Chicago to the Chicagoians (or whatever you call them)
Your point was that no one should earn more than their paymasters. I merely corrected that error.

I don't pay rock stars, CEO's , football players or basketball players, etc......only civil servants

If they join because of their desire to teach, then they should stop bitching.

And I know what my point was and you got it wrong

You should, perhaps, set a better example and stop bitching yourself. Then you could try to express your points more clearly.
