A challenge for people who refused to vote for trump OR Hillary

I realized that many years ago long before this forum thread. I suggested several reasons that people vote 3rd party and none of them were because they thought they were going to win (although I have known people who thought they had a chance).

There is always a chance if they are on the ballot, hell the worst possible candidate won the presiduncy, anything is possible...:palm: lol

Are you getting close to realizing the harm allowing the Republican to win as listed in the OP causes?

You have two corporate parties, neither of which represent my views on many subjects & polices, I see zero reason to support or save one devil from another since it is their own interests/their corp sponsors etc whose interests they serve~FUCK THEM BOTH....

Sure it does, you believe whatever works for you....

I'm going on those saying 3rd party candidates don't expect to win they simply don't like the major party candidates. I don't consider casting a vote knowing you're going to lose because you can't stand the other guy as serving a purpose. If you do, believe in whatever works for you. You'll lose and be right back where you were before casting your feel good vote.

Actually, you have two parties who are very different, and if you don't recognize that you are responsible for everything worse Republicans do than Democrats. I recently posted a 'top ten' list of those damages. This tax bill - $6 trillion taken from the American people for corporate profits and the rich - is just one.

In Calif about 1/4 register as no party...

If more folks vote for party X then the two corp parties in power are going to have to look @ that, the reasons & make some changes..........

If they know you will vote for them or not vote no matter what, a blind man can see they have no motivation to change the same O same O........

I'm sure a republican could post a top ten list if hillary had one as well.:dunno:

Yes, I don't agree w/ the gop tax plan, lots of folks don't, including ppl in the gop...

We are not going to agree & thats fine, we don't have to...

That talk about the two major parties making changes has been going on for many, many years. One would thing some major changes would have occurred by now.

The disagreement from some in the GOP has nothing to do with the tax plan and everything to do with not liking the candidate the people chose for that party. The insiders got their feelings hurt that one of their own didn't get picked so they take their ball and go home like a big baby.

Well, I posted ten clear facts, and you posted you don't agree. That's not rational. You didn't challenge my facts, you didn't justify disagreeing with other facts, nothing.

There is that as well, but there are still those in the party that have barked & barked about the deficit~& here they are..

Based on how things have been going for more years than I've been alive, one would think something would have been accomplished other than "starting somewhere".

As you know there have been many efforts & many fails but there has always been that desire..

The fact that so many voters in calif want no affiliation w/ either party gives me some hope.. Many folks in other states don't have the options we have as the political system has been monopolized to keep them in & others out..

Since successes/failures are what is used to determine whether something has been effective, desires really mean nothing unless they can be turned into successes. Since you say, despite the many, many years the push has been in place, things are still at the starting somewhere point, I'd day it hasn't been very successful.

The coalition of groups supporting each party has undergone many changes over the years including the major issues dividing the parties. We have a two-party system because 90%+ of the voters will not support a third party; so, it seems the current system meets the needs of most voters. A multi-party system offers more voting choices but creates problems of its own with the governing party. Many people claim they are independents but most of them still vote Democratic or Republican. If a 3rd party could offer something a large percentage of voters could support it would be exist.

Most people that claim they are "independent" don't understand what that means.

The problem with a 3rd party offering something that will draw enough voters to make it viable is that so many of them are single issue parties or further to the left or right versions of the two major parties.

True. Many claim to be independent because of a cynical, negative attitude toward the parties (and anything political). I also agree about the problem with 3rd parties, but I don't think there are any other alternatives that would attract more voters. Despite recent divisions among the parties and onl some issues, most Americans are still basically in the middle on major issues--a consensus on democracy and capitalism; so, the parties must appeal to that middle. Differences on issues like abortion are primarily symbolic and aren't relevant in everyday politics since nobody seeks to make changes in current law.

Many also claim to be independent because they don't have the guts to admit what they are.

The current division within the Republican party has more to do with the insiders being pissed because Trump and not one of their own was the choice. Many of them would rather lose to Democrats than to man/woman up because they didn't get what they wanted.

Differences on issues like abortion, same sex marriage, the sexually confused deviants that think they can be a gender they want rather than the one they were born, etc. are more than symbolic.

How can 3rd parties step up and become relevant if you agree how they do things isn't working?

Since Roe v. Wade the Republicans have held the presidency and/or Congress for several years. When did they once attempt to do anything about abortion (propose and amendment)? The same applies to same sex marriage. The battles on abortion are merely rhetoric since there is never any action/vote on the issue.

Third parties can step up and become relevant when Americans are willing to vote for them. It is not hard for them to get on the ballot IF they have even a minimal level of support.

I don't think parties are the problem. We operated as a two-party system most of our history fairly successfully. The complaint was that they were too similar. Now that Americans have become more divided, more consistent in their liberal/conservative views, their ideology more often matches their party affiliation, politics defined as who they hate, and a "sorting" has resulted with more voters living among like-minded people creating congressional districts heavily one-party, members of Congress represent the voters whose divisiveness prevents them from working together. The color of the jersey is more important than the name on the back. The parties are just representing the public.
