A challenge for people who refused to vote for trump OR Hillary

Assume a person voted third party because they can't stomach Trump or Clinton. But, that person favors stricter immigration enforcement, tax cuts, reduced government regulation, and other things Trump favors. To that voter, Trump winning comes closer to some of the policies they favor than had Clinton won.

I have heard people argue that with a Republican Congress Clinton could pass little of her platform and even with a Republican Congress Trump is not going to get most of his proposals passed. Therefore, government would accomplish little under either president which is preferable to any of the policies either proposed.

I think this thread is more of an argument that you think Clinton's policies are preferable to those of Trump, not whether 3rd party voters can justify their votes. Some posters did answer your challenge about the ten issues, you just do not agree with their policy choices.

The problem Trump is running into with fellow Republicans is they didn't get one of their own insiders and would rather lose politically than work with the guy that represents their party so they take their ball and go home.

You're right that IF a voter likes trump's policies enough that would make sense - that's exactly the case I asked for a person who feels that way to make, and none have. Now some are on ignore and if they did, I wouldn't have seen it, but my impression is that everyone on ignore is a trump voter, not the people I'm discussing. Taking your list, where is the defense for ending DACA? For taking $1.5 trillion out of healthcare for more for the rich? The specific regulations in question? Crickets.

That sounds like a football team sticking to their game plan of a running game despite it not working just so they can claim they stuck to their "principles".

Except a football team is trying to win that game. Third party voters know they cannot win that election but seek to support a party whose platform they favor or avoid voting for a Democrat or Republican who both had negative ratings. Some third party voters do not think it is principled to vote for the lesser of two evils as most Trump and Clinton voters did.

That's like expecting to win the lottery without buying a ticket.

No, it is like buying a lottery ticket knowing you and everybody else who bought a ticket will be losers.

What did 3rd party voters expect to win?

Interesting that not ONE person who refused to vote for Hillary or trump has responded to the OP.

I voted for Gary Johnson. Nothing personal but I don't give two sh*ts about what you wrote in the OP. There have been probably several hundred threads on this board yelling about this exact same thing. I don't need to respond to each one. And if you complain about the current system yet continually vote for the same people quit complaining.

not facing that we are a two party system is foolish

True. Everybody knows only Democrats or Republicans have a chance of winning a plurality of the votes. But those parties have changed over the years with some disappearing and new parties appearing--Federalists, Whigs, Democrats, Republicans.

But the main point is that if a person lives in a very blue or red state their 3rd party vote is not going to affect the electoral votes of that state. It may not accomplish anything but neither will it hurt anything. It is a moot question unless the 3rd party vote affects the final outcome in that state.

If you buy a ticket, while the chances are slim of winning, you still have a chance. I had that discussion with a friend not long ago. He happened to be with me when I bought my Powerball ticket. He asked me why I wasted my money, that I wasn't going to win stating he'd never bought one. I guaranteed him two things. One, that while my chances of winning were very slim, I had a chance and secondly, that he would never win. I realize the chances of winning will probably never happen. It cost me $2/week. If that $2/week is going to break me, and it isn't, having that $2/week more isn't going to help me is my situation is that bad.

Apparently 3rd party voters "win" a warm feeling inside. That's about all they get voting from someone they know won't win.

If a person buys a lottery ticket he has the same chance of winning as ever other person with a ticket; but, 3rd party voters have no chance of winning. Rather than having a warm feeling inside many are disgusted at their choice of candidates.

Are you getting close to realizing that voting for a third party isn't because "you think they are going to win"..???

I realized that many years ago long before this forum thread. I suggested several reasons that people vote 3rd party and none of them were because they thought they were going to win (although I have known people who thought they had a chance).

Are you getting close to realizing the harm allowing the Republican to win as listed in the OP causes?

The person that doesn't buy a lottery ticket has no chance of winning.

Are you getting close to realizing that having a warm feeling inside by voting 3rd party serves no purpose?
