There are many reasons but a lot point to complacency; our ancestors fought hard to produce the worlds greatest democracy and wealthiest nation. By the late 50s, we were leading the world in that regard and did so for another 40+ years.

While we can discuss the "Power corrupts" aspect of our government, it's We, the People who lapsed into complacency and let them do it. We, the People let liars and adulterers become our highest leaders. By doing so, we made lying and cheating part of our morality so it shouldn't be a surprise when lying and cheating pervade our leadership and our society.

To be clear; I'm not saying it should be a crime to lie or cheat per se, just that we should stop electing people who flaunt it. We, the People should hold our leaders to a high standard. It's not hypocritical to do so. It's only hypocritical to allow it in one political party but not another.

You're mixing and matching a lot there. Do you agree a city or state can mandate masks in city limits? Their schools? Do you agree the States can ask for Federal assistance in fighting a Pandemic? Or that it's in the nation's best interest to get through a pandemic with as little loss of life and least cost as possible and all respect to Ben Franklin's comments?
