In anticipation of President Trump’s loss in November, there is a cottage industry of speculation about the fate of the post-Trump Republican Party. The New York Times’s David Brooks pines for a Republican Party without racism, anti-government animus or unbridled faith in free markets. (The technical term for that might be “the Democratic Party.”)

Jennifer is correct. What David Brooks is looking for is the Democratic Party. That is what almost every sane American should be seeking.

Me...ehhh...I'm an Independent. But sometimes ya gotta boost the other guy!

Trump is still a better "piece of shit" than Biden. Biden would be a puppet for the likes of Pelosi and Schumer, neither who have the country's best interest in mind.

It's was hot here in PA. too. I cleaned my car and put it right back in the garage, never went for a drive. Went back in the A/C and fell asleep! Now I'm up...
 
The Democrats should be more worried that should they win, how do they stay in office and build momentum beyond their first two years. Twice now, they've ridden into office and gotten control of Congress and the White House. Both times they lasted two years and then Congress flipped and flipped massively to Republican control. Clinton was savvy enough to find a way to work with Republicans, Obama wasn't.

But, in both cases the Progressive Left agenda went down in flames.

That is so fucking nuts, I have trouble accepting that you meant it. Trump is the most disgusting piece of shit ever to gain high office in America...and that includes Joe Mc Carthy, a guy you probably would have loved. Trump is disgusting...and you should be mortified to continue to support him. People like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer are certainly not perfect, but they have more of the "country's best interest in mind" each day than Trump could muster up in a lifetime.

Joe Scarborough, Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, Bush, Romney, Colin Powell, John Weaver, Rick Wilson, Dick Cheney, Carly Fiorina, John Bolton and Cindy McCain, Jeb Bush and most likely, Lisa Murkiwoski.

Trump has also angered one of his major donors, Sheldon Adelson, by condemning him for not donating enough. He may have lost a major donor.

I post on two political sites. I also post on a Philosophy site. I used to post on an Agnostic site, but that has stopped.

I am an Independent (that is with a capital "I"). You can check my registration if you want...but you will see that I am.

I am not a leftist shill. I am a reasonably intelligent person who sees that American conservatism is one of the most disgusting political philosophies ever to pollute planet Earth...and I sometimes speak out against it.

(It IS one of the most disgusting political philosophies ever to pollute planet Earth, although I think Nazism was probably worst. I suspect people like you will continue to try to out-do Nazism, though.)

Actually, history shows that in both cases the country did much better with a split federal government. In both cases the economy picked up (considerably in Clinton's case--enough to let Congress and Clinton pass a balanced budget at one point, a singular achievement). Clinton's excesses by his idiot attorney general Janet Reno on Right wing "militias" came to an abrupt end after this happened--the Waco Siege being the worst of that excess--

Across the board, the country did better with a split rule rather than one-party rule. It also showed that Progressives given a chance to run the show immediately and massively try to expand government and spending, tank the economy, and basically make a majority of the public angry with their decisions otherwise they wouldn't be tossed out of office so thoroughly and quickly.

American conservatism is a disgusting blight on our planet. I suspect its days are numbered, though, so we have hope of surviving.
