Federal prosecutors are targeting medical marijuana shops in California, seeking forfeiture of the properties in which they do business.
The authorities are pressuring landlords to shut down the shops or face possible loss of the real estate through the unconventional and low-key use of a civil statute designed primarily to seize the assets of drug-trafficking organizations.
While some states, including California, have legalized medical marijuana businesses, the federal government does not recognize their authority to do so and has targeted the shops for violations of the 40-year-old Controlled Substances Act.
The goal of the Justice Department's effort, part of a crackdown announced last October, is to fight the medical marijuana industry, estimated at $1.7 billion annually, without confronting it head-on with costly and potentially embarrassing criminal prosecutions, industry sources and legal experts said.
This shite had better come up in the debates. Obama needs to explain himself on this issue; he won't, but he at least needs to be asked the questions.
This use of resources makes no sense to me. At a time when budgets are stretched to the limit, we're wasting resources trying to discourage an actual industry, that many people need. It's indefensible. It's as though our gov't is 50 years behind the times & still operating under the false pretenses of a movie like "Reefer Madness."
Sadly neither party will open thier eyes till forced. The pagan religious folk are used to assine government. This shite had better come up in the debates. Obama needs to explain himself on this issue; he won't, but he at least needs to be asked the questions.

The Obama administration has taken a much tougher line when it comes to the recreational or medicinal user of marijuana than it does to drug cartel gangsters. And the GOP, anxious to make Holder look bad, will line up behind the anti-marijuana crusadeThe Department’s view of the efficient use of limited federal resources as articulated in the Ogden Memorandum has not changed. There has, however, been an increase in the scope of commercial cultivation, sale, distribution and use of marijuana for purported medical purposes….
The Ogden Memorandum was never intended to shield such activities from federal enforcement action and prosecution, even where those activities purport to comply with state law. Persons who are in the business of cultivating, selling or distributing marijuana, and those who knowingly facilitate such activities, are in violation of the Controlled Substances Act, regardless of state law. Consistent with resource constraints and the discretion you may exercise in your district, such persons are subject to federal enforcement action, including potential prosecution. State laws or local ordinances are not a defense to civil or criminal enforcement of federal law….
did you not read the article? it's about the money, asset forfeiture, the government wants to keep stealing the property of the people, and the war on drugs is very convenient. it will get worse before it gets better.

devil's advocate here: as someone who is prescribed marinol, i am excited for the release of sativex. marinol is synthetic thc, and like many, i find it provides little relief. Sativex contains CBD, which is what I am personally after. i do not live in a medical state, so i look forward to the release of a whole plant extract med that I can legally access.
.Remember though its not a whole extract if it only contains thc and cbd(canninbinoids) here are over 60 or 80 cannabinoids and 200+ alkaloids that all come together to produce the final psychoactive/medicinal effects of the actual plant, although it's an improvement over Marinol
I didn't read the whole thing, but as usual, they're missing the big picture.
If the gov't wants to really make some coin, they'd legalize marijuana completely.

yes. Except Obama SAID he wasn't going to target medical marijuana. fucking add another lie to the pile.this isn't any different than any administration since Nixon. it's easier to go after the users than it is the suppliers and there's more money in it. Ayn Rands prophecy come true.
“There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”
that's not the big picture they want. it's about control as well and you can't control people if it's a marketable product, can you?
yeah, but that's ok because his lie was still a tremendous boost to the dispensary business, so sayeth the dude.yes. Except Obama SAID he wasn't going to target medical marijuana. fucking add another lie to the pile.

not everyone who uses would be brain dead though. This is the problem with the 'progressive' mindset, is you still think that government is passive. It's not. Until you come to realize that, you'll still be just a pawn in the game.I disagree w/ you. Something like legalized marijuana would probably add to the apathy of the populace.
If you want to talk about gov't control, it's more about diversions. Keep people busy, keep them drunk, keep them stoned, keep them diverted. I don't see the overt controlling interest in making sure that people don't get high.
That's why he needs to answer for it. It needs to at least come up in the debates. Even if he gives a BS answer, I want to hear it.
why? you'd still swallow it like the rest of the koolaid.
you ain't going to. Romney isn't going to bring it up. If a moderator does, here i'll give youThat's why he needs to answer for it. It needs to at least come up in the debates. Even if he gives a BS answer, I want to hear it.
Obama's "answer"
"Smoked marijuana is dangerous, and now we have a pharmacetical alternative that does the same effcetive treatment" ( BIG LIE) ,,etc.
