A political science report from the future....

Tool is one of the best bands out there. They and Pink Floyd are likely my favorite bands of all time. So far. This week. Well, today at least.

Heard Slightly Stupid at Red Rocks a couple weeks ago. They opened for G Love. Pretty good....

I am going to deviate from the rest of you... while not my favorite, I like U2.

I know what Wiki says. Note that Megadeth albums sales aren't NEARLY as in depth as U2's. And I say that they're close because...... U2 blows.

Have you even listened to Megadeth before water? Dave Mustaine is a musical genius.

Great logic! Makes sense!

Dude, I was listening to Megadeth, Maiden, and Metallica while you were in grade school. You'll get tired of speed metal after 15 years, like I did. It not exactly a genre that has room to grow musically and melodically.

Thank you, most fail to see the awesomeness of my logic.

And I've been listening to metal since I was in grade school as well. While it's not the only thing I listen to (old school country and 80's rock hold their place). It IS however the only genre that I really feel a passion for. Had I musical talent, I would probably start/join a metal band.

Speed metal: You'll grow out of it. I did. It'll get boring after 20 years of listening to it.

You'll grow an appreciation for good melody and good song writing. Like U2 ;)

I'm going to take a moment to agree with cypress; This is kind of wierd for me.
Bono has one of the best set of pipes in the modern era. And THE edge's guitar style is the most original one to come down the pipe in ages.

*summary of a heavy metal song*

(Power chords going I, III, V over.... and over.... and over... and over... and over... and over...)

Singer: GWAAAARRR! GWWAARRR! PAINN!!!! AH, PAIN YEAH!!!! PAIN YEAHH!!! AHHH!!!! GWARRR!

(More power chords, except this time they've plugged in another distortion pedal, which has added so many overtones to the riff the notes in it are actually indistinguishable)

(Lead guitar comes in, plays something that had little relation to the reas of the music, cuts out after 4 bars)

Singer: GWARRRR!! PAIN!!! THEY'RE ALL AGAINST ME! GWARR!! I WON'T BACK DOWN!!! GWARR!!! PAIN!!! PAIN!!!

And that's about when it ends.

Anyway, back to Vertigo: this song sucks so much because of the unique tag-team trio of shitty music, the forced chic of iPod ads, and its stupid fan base. I looked around on some U2 message boards to see what the fans were saying about this song and its turgid lyrics, here's what fan member "Bob" has to say:

Vertigo actually has some seriously heavy lyric - but I bet most of mainstream radio listeners will never know what they mean - I love that! It makes me feel priviledged [sic] to know what the man has to say - there are so many invaluable messages in their albums, certainly this one will be another thought provoking and life influencing scripture.

Here's a sample of the "seriously heavy lyrics" in Vertigo:

WoooAoo! WoooAoo! WoooAoo! WoooAoo!

And who could forget this poignant verse:

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah,
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
.

Yeah, real heavy lyrics, dipshit. When Bono's not mumbling like an idiot, he's trying to be emotional by flailing his arms in the air like he's so overcome that he can't help but bellow out a limp-dick line like "I can feeeeEEEEEEeeeeeel." Pussy.

hehe... couldn't help bringing in Maddox.

So the correct answer watermark is no, you dont listen to metal. That would have saved you alot of time typing instead of some sterotypical bullshit.

And if I will "grow out of it" as ya'll say, why dont alot of the bands that play the music grow out of it?

LOL.............

Heavy Metal gives one a major headache...what happened to old fashioned 'rock and roll' anyhoo ... giving deference to Soul Music... that rocks too...try it Mikey..ya will like it..!

It makes them millions. Would you?

I haven't "grown out" of it. I still like Metallica, before the Black Album. And if I ignore the wasted lyrics I can even take the Black Album.

I still like Godsmack, Disturbed, Megadeath, Slayer, Tool and yes, even Ozzy.

I haven't "grown out" of it. I just expanded my listening to include other things and can appreciate them too.

I still like metal in the gym. But, that's about it. Metallica usually intro'd with melodies and had some nice ones. Disturbed sucks.

By no means is metal the only type of music I listen to (though its still the majority). Like I said, I love old school rock and roll, old country and hell even swing bands. Personally the best concert I've ever been to was Jimmey Buffett a couple eyars ago.
