What he self-financed was to hire a bunch of actors to pretend to be impressed with him and clap as he descended his golden escalator.
He is and always has been a fake.
He has pretended to be sophisticated but it is all an act. He has no class. Truly sophisticated people will have nothing to do with him.

There's still plenty of anger at the system that favors him. He's deregulated numerous things, and hopefully, he'll be able to do more of that over the next few years.
The anger that supports him wants less government in many aspects.
The anger that is against him wants to return to the status quo.
Long before he ran for president, he was hated by a lot of the wealthy in NYC. When he decided to become a Republican, he was then hated by the media.
The people who support him hate the media and pompous types among the wealthy. So this is part of why he appeals to rural folk.
He might be a wealthy New Yorker, but his outcast image appeals to the large swaths of "flyover country" that the media dismisses.
Trump was fundraising the first week in office. The wealthy are on his side. Money is easy for him. he has had fundraisers with incredible ticket prices. I am not impressed.
Trump is a blowhard pathogical liar whose bravado appeals to the less intelligent WWE type raving lunatic crowd.
The tRump campaign was never "self financed". That was simply classic Trump bullshit.

Actually, the spread is pretty thin between parties on income. Republicans often have slightly more rich people that vote for them, but it's not a big difference.
Where the spread is more significant is at the bottom. Democrats do pull in more of the poor vote by a substantial margin.
So, in effect, you can't really say that Republicans get a lot more of the wealthy. All you can say is that Democrats get a lot more of the poor.
