Things I know about hockey, other than the specifics of the game:

Invented by Canadians, but dominated by the Ruskies
Calgary is supposed to be a pretty hot (albeit cold) team
USA beat the USSR in 1980 to great hoopla
Wayne Gretsky
Mighty Ducks movies are a guilty pleasure

I don't know about Canadian teams but most American teams are no longer Russian dominated. The Wings still are though.

I will admit it was a bit scenic and entertaining when I was up in Vancouver, having Curling, Golf, and Hockey on the teles in all of the resturants I went to.
