Ok, well, it didn't occur to me before I posted this that people would want to hear it. I'm a little nervous. I tape it this evening, and it airs on Thursday. So, if I don't make a complete jackass out of myself, I'll tell you guys, ok? I keep saying to myself, whatever you do, don't keep saying "ummm". Because that is one of the things that I always notice when people do in radio interviews, and it doesn't sound good.

I'll tell you guys tomorrow.
Good luck . . . and add one more to the PM list, if you will. :)

Don't think too much about the "umm" thing, that makes it happen more.

What you want to do is get somebody who will ask you questions that are likely in the interview and practice. That way you will know what you are going to say. This allows you not to "think" too much and "umms" don't hit as often if you aren't attempting to think up an answer on the spot.

If you do it well there will be only one or two questions with an "um" filler, the rest you will already have a ready response to.

Enjoy it. Have fun... That helps as well. Overthinking yourself is a mistake you want to avoid.

If necessary, carry reminder cards. (For those with "stage fright") this will jog the memory if you go "blank" at just the wrong time.

yeah Darla, I'm paranoid about the "ummm" thing to. Ever notice how much Bush does it? ;)

You probably don't need my advice - you're one of the most articulate people I've ever spoken too. I've done a couple work-related TV interviews, and I found that speaking relatively slowly and in measured tones, gives me a chance to consider my words and gather my thoughts. It seems to be human nature to blurt something out as soon as a question is asked, but it never hurts to pause for a moment to gather one's thoughts.

well? how did it go? how many ums were said, zero?

It went really well! No umms. I thought the segment would be in interview format, but it wasn't. So it ended up I was supposed to do a 10 minute monolog. But, everthing worked out so well, because the producer was running late, and asked if I minded waiting. I said no, but since he was running late would it be ok if I got a friend from Codepink down there, and we did the segment together? Because my friend Loretta couldn't get there at 5. So anyway, she ended up getting there, and we had sort of like a conversation. The producer called us "one take wonders".

We were good! My voice sounds an octave or two deeper than it is, I lowered it without realizing it to keep it from shaking. But that's ok, because it worked, it didn't shake. It will be on at the link below, Thursday night at 10pm est. The producer said that he wouldn't be surprised if he ends up repeating the segment several times over Wed and Thurs. But the only definite time I have is the one I gave you.

And I'm the first one to start speaking. Thanks everyone for all of the support and nice things that you guys said! :)
