There is no such thing as democracy and this is the same in all countries. There are lobbies, groups, families etc, so some strong unities. These strong unities offer you their candidates and you "brainwashed ordinary statistical number" vote for the one which they want you to vote for. After they are "elected", they starts to imply the agenda of the unity or unities they work for.

Actually countries like Sweden went through democratic socialist periods and their economic growth greatly dropped. As a result they free'd up their markets and economic prosperity returned. They still have higher taxes and a larger social safety net but they have free trade and free markets. They also have very limited military expenses so ask them to play the role the U.S. does in the world and no way they maintain their same social structure. Throw in the fact they are very small countries (not much bigger than the Bay Area) and a very homogeneous culture and you're looking at apples and oranges compared to the U.S.

It's hard for a heterogeneous culture to have solidarity, true, but our not trying results in our being a sadly socially regressive nation.
We're still the same nation that had human slaves as recently as the 1860s--when it existed in no truly civilized country anymore.

I have issues with how we do things in the U.S. Have never stated otherwise. We're the greatest country on the planet but that doesn't mean we don't have problems. We are the world's economic super power but that doesn't mean we don't have challenges. But just saying "be like Sweden" while not addressing in the full totality of what that would entail isn't a viable option.

I honestly can't imagine the criterion or criteria you used to come up with this opinion.
There's little question that, situated between two great oceans, we've the best tract of real estate on the planet and thus have the potential to be the planet's greatest county.
How anybody thinks that we've achieved that potential with our disgraceful social regressiveness is incomprehensible to me.
