Who are these some? New to me. Christianity and other religions are anti-science and knowledge. They tore down libraries and burned books. Christianity created the dark ages when they got power and they would do it again.
They are anti-science in America because religions cannot survive scrutiny and honesty. They need to hide facts to hold on to followers who are trained from birth to believe.

The "Religious Right" refers to a culture of Conservatives that want political policy to be based on religion, mainly Christianity.
There are Leftists who are religious, but there is no culture of Liberals mixing politics and religion. Liberals generally want to keep politics and religion separate.

If you look @ history you will see they were Christian & ignorant & backward, just as they were *Christian* when they became *enlightened*...

It was the secular city states that put the *Church* on the back burner & went about making themselves rich........

I don't know of anything inherent in Islam that would make them any more unable to be democratic than Christians, Hindu or Buddhist etc....Someone earlier mentioned "democracy via the barrel of the gun", which was only true when we were assured that the outcomes were good, AKA TO OUR BENEFIT, as what is good for us, is good for all, if they like it or not..

Example the Arab Spring & the US role in Bahrain & Egypt... :thinking:;)

Defend Islam in what sense? That they think Muslims should have the same rights as Christians? That's not mixing politics and religion, that's just standing up for religious liberty.
Leftists don't condemn people for being Christian, regardless of race.
Some Democrats do, but it isn't common enough to be part of a "Religious Left." There is no Religious Left culture like there is on the Right.
