No, Dix - it's when all of those people who stayed were stranded in the floods, for days.

And, unlike you, I don't see their offense of not evacuating when told as punishable by death, so they were still in need of rescue in my book.
 
Well that explains that. I wasn't aware how they fared at drilling and such, but at the very least, we could use their disaster response actions. they have to have something they can add to the effort

Uhm... does it not matter that they were given AMPLE warning to evacuate? That they had DAYS before the hurricane hit, to make a plan and move to a safer place? You can't possibly protect people from their own stupidity! What you are asking for here, is not possible for the Federal government to do! Have you ANY idea of what it would cost to have Federal rescue teams stationed and ready in every major American city? First of all, we simply don't have the manpower to do that, much less the money it would cost to maintain such a system. Traditionally, we have relied on State and Local governments to handle this aspect of a disaster. The Federal government is there to ASSIST in the AFTERMATH! They are NOT first responders in a disaster, and they never have been, for ANY disaster at ANY time in history!

As for the aftermath, that's a much more obvious example of failed leadership, with people in need of rescue, than your desperate charge that he should somehow be capping the well, when clearly, people with decades of industry experience & technology at their disposal are still unable to.

List Buckeye lover, You won't find me dissing the initial response. The lie about Jesus helping the REBUILDING is where I had a problem. They did not diss out nearly enough dough, which I'm sure Obama won't either.

But there ARE people who know how to fix it! The Saudi's and the Dutch, both have technology and equipment to deal with this sort of thing, they have done so in the past. In the early 90s, the Saudi's had a spill nearly as bad as this, and they dispersed super-tankers immediately, where the gushing oil was sucked up as it came out, limiting the damage it did to their coasts. Why aren't we doing that? Why haven't the Saudi's been consulted on this? Why can't the Dutch even get their phone calls returned?

What we are seeing is, exactly what happens when an ideologue is responsible for leadership. Obama is a great talker, and a big dreamer, and he can tell us all how great things will be one day, how we will overcome this and move forward, how we are studying the problem and looking at all the options, and working diligently to find solutions... but all of his TALK is not reducing the amount of oil spewing into the gulf! This is a MAJOR crisis, and we need LEADERSHIP... ACTION... not more pontificating TALK from an ideologue!

Actually, no one knows how to stop the oil leak. There may be people with ideas about cleaning up the mess that the oil leak is creating -- I'm no expert on that -- but no one has the first clue how to stop the flow other than what has already been tried.

And the President isn't some sort of superhero that can create a solution by sheer force of will and "leadership." It is fantasyland narcissist men (and it's almost always men) that think that way.
