Best Movie Ranking for my Lifespan

Minister of Truth

Practically Perfect
I am just going to make a list of the best movies made since 1986, for each year of my life. Some will probably make you go WTF while others you will agree with. Some years really sucked and made this list difficult, but otherwise it was simple for me. I resisted the temptation of beginning this list with Top Gun, because its wildly overrated, and found a suitable alternative.

Feel free to comment and add to the list. If your really old you may wish to cut back a little O_o

1986 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
1987 - The Untouchables
1988 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
1989 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1990 - The Hunt for Red October
1991 - Terminator 2
1992 - A Few Good Men
1993 - Groundhog Day*
1994 - The Shawshank Redemption
1995 - Braveheart
1996 - A Time to Kill
1997 - Titanic
1998 - American History X
1999 - The Matrix
2000 - The Patriot
2001 - LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002 - The Emperor's Club
2003 - Pirates of the Caribbean

Only one of that that I've ever watched is Shawshank Redemption and American History X, and that was too long ago for me to remember. I've heard of A Few Good Men (and watched bits and pieces), but I've never heard of The Untouchables.

Shawshank is a truly great movie that you can watch again periodically. American History X is the most graphic movie on my list, and Edward Norton at his finest. Its about racism and a former skinhead getting out of prison and trying to prevent his kid brother from going down the same road as he did. A Few Good Men is Tom Cruise's finest film, and it features Jack Nicholson's famous line "you can't handle the truth!" Untouchables is a classic with Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, and Robert De Nero, about the feds trying to bring down Capone.

Most people/everyone here has probably never even heard of The Emperor's Club, but I love that movie!

You put TITANIC on your list?????

That is IT.... turn in your man card... go find Lorena Bobbitt and tell her you want the special service she provided her husband.

James Cameron is a great director, aside from Avatar, which blows. Titanic had it all, acting, music, effects, lavish artwork (not intended to reference the painting, btw), et. al.

I will admit that I am blinded in my 1997 pick through sheer nostalgia. Titanic launched during my 6th grade year of school. I never actually saw it in the theater, the way 99.9999% of everyone else I knew saw it, but it managed to consume my social life and the popular culture around me for a year.

If you would have asked me back in 1998 (or as recent as 2004) what I think of Titanic, I would have dissed it, and called it a chick flick. When it came out on video, and my sister rented it from Hollywood, I put it on and as people trickled in, I led the charge in mercillously heckling the film.

As it happens, I am an incredibly nostalgic person, and no movie has ever impacted my life the way this one did. When the 10 year anniversary came around, I was giddy and excited, and watched it on TNT a couple of times.

A few good men? You placed that before Unforgiven? Mwahahahahahahah!

Yeah, there's a huge reason for that:

A Few Good Men = great movie
Unforgiven = not a great movie

The latter is a brilliant retooling of the western genre, and Eastwood did a remarkable job on it, but it really is overrated. If you want a modern western that is far superior, try Open Range...

Just looking at 1986, how can you ignore any of these films?

Hannah and Her Sisters
A Room With a View
Mona Lisa
Blue Velvet
Platoon
'Round Midnight
The Fly
Stand by Me
Manhunter
Aliens
Crocodile Dundee

1. Hannah and Her Sisters
2. A Room With a View
3. Mona Lisa
4. Blue Velvet
5. Platoon
6. 'Round Midnight
7. The Fly

Platoon sucked. I want to see The Fly someday, because its the film that made Jeff Goldblum a success, and because I hear its really good, and better than the original.

While there are a couple good movies on the above list... none of them tops his pick for '86.... Ferris was the best of that year.

Oh... Geeeeebus! Take this man's penis away! He no longer deserves it.

Titanic was the worst popular movie I have ever had the unpleasant experience to watch.
