This isn't going the way you thought it would, is it? Instead of painting me as a totalitarian...because I think everyone should have health care, you have to defend yourself from charges of empty and hollow centrism, not to mention laziness. It's all about legitimacy. Conservatives know they have none because they've been unable to convincingly win national elections since 1988, and hold onto that power without rigging the system in their favor.

Swap out "Trump" for "Hitler" and ask yourself if you would forgive someone for voting for him. Because Trump wants to be Hitler, and is basically running the Nazi playbook right now.

As I suspected, we do seem very close to one another in the subjects that I think matter most: human rights; civil rights; treatment of people, animals, and the environment; kindness; and decency. As you said, we can disagree about budget bills and education priorities and international policy, but I have no common ground with racists and people who doubt that women and other minorities (racial and sexual minorities in particular) deserve equal rights and should be treated well.

I'm a non-white, non-straight man who lives part-time in the US. There are many, many unbelievably shitty people who live in this country who try to oppress me and question my existence every day. Afterward, they tell me that racism doesn't exist and that homophobia is a natural biological reaction. They're pieces of shit. They don't deserve my or your time except to the extent that they form voting coalitions that require our resistance.

I will not rescind my forgiveness for people who voted for Trump in 2016. Believe me: I spent years making that decision. I did it with the deepest and most sincere thought and intentions. I did not fully comprehend how evil Trump is in 2016; and it would be unfair for me now, in hindsight, to hold other people to a higher standard. However, now? Yes, it is clear to see and plain to understand that Trump is like Hitler. I will not associate with people who voted for him in 2020. I have not associated with people who support him since 2018. He destroyed the line that used to exist between political differences and dragged his followers across the line between right and wrong. I will not be on the wrong side of history nor will I treat people poorly simply to maintain my stranglehold on the levers of social control and political power. That's primarily the death call of old, white, straight men who don't care about anyone except themselves; and I will celebrate when we replace them in the majority and celebrate again as they thankfully die off. This latest denial of the election of a president is the most despicable, most pathetic act I have ever seen in American politics.
