Which is why I continued to be amazed that the Republicans are so fucked up they handed over the White House, the Senate and the House to the Democrats.
I think it had more to do with how the election was run. As in Orange County two years earlier, the Democrats were operating under a similar set of rules. That is, mass mail-in balloting, ballot harvesting, late ballot counts post election day, etc. In Orange County, a long time Republican stronghold in California, the Democrats suddenly won like 5 of 6 house elections there for the first time in like 30 or 40 years. Every one was won on late ballots with the Republican well ahead in early and mid voting up to election day.
The Biden vote followed a similar pattern.
What was even more weird, was in 2020, Orange County reverted to Republican and the Democrats just elected got tossed out of the House even as Biden won California easily. But elsewhere you saw the same pattern Orange County exhibited as the path to Democrat Presidential victory. That is, the late count as the polls closed reversed to favor Biden and the post election day mail-in ballot vote was overwhelmingly for him. Oddly, this pattern didn't carry down ticket in lower races where there was far less change in outcomes.
My opinion on this is that the Republicans are a bit slower to catch on to this new style of voting but once they do it will make ZERO difference in the outcomes and things will revert to business as usual. This will force the Democrats to try and find even more unique and novel ways to change the voting process to favor them, rather than they change to make voters themselves favor them.
