Bitterness of paying my taxes today.. Rant

I think what top is talking about is SSI tax which ends at around 100K. Some ideas to solve the SSI problem is to create a donut where u pay up to 100k then nothing from 100k-200K or so then it kicks in again. I'm not totally against this but in exchange for an overhaul of this magnitude #1 SSI needs to be separated from the general funds, #2 those making money during SSI years should still get there benefit, #3 no more adjustments in terms of retirement age or payout. #4 It would have an END of life provision so that once the boomers die and the SSI fund is separated and funded the tax goes down... NO REDIRECTING MONEY

that's exactly what I'm talking about. If they stop it at the current 105,000 and then kick it back in at $250,000 that would be cool.

You wouldn't really get much out of the bottom 50%. Making literally everyone pay income taxes would mean that oftentimes you'd be spending more money on taxing them than you're getting back.

How so? the IRS employees are doing the same amount of work either way. WTF are you talking about? Some fantasy expense?

Explain yourself, libtard

Why? that makes no sense at all. Are they suddenly twice the expense to government because they made more money?

Fucking bullshit and totally unfair. They paid up the max and that should be it. Raise their income tax, not their SS taxes. Be the tax and spenders that you are, but don't hide your intentions. Be men about. Stupid men, albeit, b ut men none the less.

I think everyone should have to contribute if they make more then 20K or so. instances of people making up to 50K but not paying a dime is rediculous. Also whats up with people getting money back when they owe nothing in essence a governement handout.

20k is good starting point. But good luck trying to change it once it's started rolling. Reintroducing taxation to the working class would hit them pretty hard.

And the poor would, by nature, not be able to put in as much as they get back. They honestly wouldn't be able to give much even if we did make them pay. There's just not much money to be squeezed out of the 30k-50k bracket... that's why politicians know it's easy to cut. It doesn't impact the budget much and it helps out a lot of people.

i am writing obama a letter on a napkin and ask him to bill my taxes to watermarketh, the greatest, loyalestes tax payer in the world

The point is not to get money out them, (you can't get blood out of a stone), the point is to make them feel a part of the nation....paying (however little) for their good fortune of being a US citizen....to make them feel like they too have a stake in the countrys future .... like they count.

No one should be made to feel like a parasite living on the backs of others, except of course liberals...

You know I am really feeling pretty bitter today dropping tens of thousands into the mail to the federal treasury department for my 2009 tax.

The main thing is the fact that half of us households pay zero federal taxes while I am scrounging up money to send in. Every single person in this country should have to pay something. "Ask not what this country can do for you but what you can do for your country"?!?! what a fucking joke. People in this country talk out of one side of there mouths about the right thing to do free healthcare, increased military, blah blah blah.. Then pay no taxes? 50 fucking percent.... What a corrupt society we live in.

Seriously.. Who here thinks its right that 50% of households pay zero federal tax? Its a fucking joke. From this day on I will only vote for whom ever is going to cost me less money until they correct this gross unfairness.

It’s not accurate two say these people pay no “federal taxes”.

What you mean, is that they don’t pay federal income tax. Probably because most moderate income families benefit from the EITC for children. A tax credit you yourself would get if you had kids.

These people are paying federal taxes in a multitude of other ways: payroll taxes, gasoline taxes, and a myriad of excise taxes.

I’m sure that your are right: a lot of people with moderate incomes, and a house full of kids, get such a large EITC for their kids that they end up paying no federal income tax.

And for good reason, IMO. Every single developed nation on the planet, except for the United States, supports families and children through publicly subsidized day care, paid maternity leave, and paternity leave. To my knowledge, the U.S. alone out of any civilized nation, doesn’t support families and children with direct public funding. We, in contrast, give families with children a huge tax credit. Every country on the planet has a policy to support families, if you want to get rid of the EITC, I suggest you support the most rightwing Tea Bag Party candidate you can find. Otherwise, most sane people realize that kids are a huge economic drain on families, because the little bastards don’t really contribute anything tangible until they are out of high school......and most moral people, and indeed all civilized nations recognize the importance of supporting families as being paramount to a functioning and viable society.
