I used to live in Oswestry once (in fact, some Labour Party members wanted me to stand for Parliament in a bye-election, but I was away and wasn't told). The people up there are very old-fashioned farming types. They belong in the Nineteenth Century, if that late, but they are mostly decent and honest. The lies about Brexit and everything else have disgusted them - and on most counts they are the most tory types there are. Johnson should creep away NOW.

American politics is boring by comparison because its two fundamental components are ; 1) money 2) Religion.
UK politics, my post-graduate hobby/study, has this unenviable tradition of deceit which has led most of the general population to actually admire and vote for the titled elite which holds them in contempt. It has taken hundreds of years to crush any rebelliousness out of the English and to persuade them to rat on themselves at the ballot box. Those that fought for American independence have become what they were fleeing from- just like Israelis- but the US lacks the subservient forelock-touching conservatism that colors English politics and pushes it into the realms of comedy and satire.
Who knows, perhaps the USA will catch up.

Boris Johnson suffered a painful by-election loss on Thursday after weeks of bad news.
The Liberal Democrats took the safe Tory seat of North Shropshire with a huge swing of 34.2%
Tory MPs told Insider of growing discontent in their ranks that could threaten Johnson's future.

Chris Curtis, a senior researcher at the polling firm Opinium, told Insider the scale of the Tory defeat was "absolutely massive," noting that it was "the seventh-largest swing we've ever seen in a by-election."

Polish deputy PM says Germany wants to turn EU into ‘fourth reich’

The head of Poland’s ruling party, Jarosław Kaczyński, has said Germany is trying to turn the EU into a federal “German fourth reich”.

Speaking to the far-right Polish newspaper GPC, the head of the Law and Justice party (PiS) said some countries “are not enthusiastic at the prospect of a German fourth reich being built on the basis of the EU”.

“If we Poles agreed with this kind of modern-day submission we would be degraded in different ways,” said Kaczyński, who is also a deputy prime minister. He added that the European court of justice was being used as an “instrument” for federalist ideas.

Poland has been involved in a lengthy standoff with the EU, particularly over the judicial changes that PiS has pushed through since 2015.

The EU this week said it was launching legal action against Poland for ignoring EU law and undermining judicial independence.

Poland has accused the bloc of “bureaucratic centralism”.

During a visit to Warsaw by the new German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, this month, the prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, said the current Berlin government’s support for EU federalism was “utopian and therefore dangerous”.

To obtain Brexit, Johnson's gang kicked out almost anyone intelligent and honest in the tory party, which explains their current problem: the alternatives to Johnson are laughable, since they have to appeal to the equivalent of Trumpers in the Tory membership. Johnson is very bright, but hopelessly dishonest; the others are mostly just dishonest.
